Job Summary The Intensivist is responsible for providing specialized medical care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The role involves assessment, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and coordination of multidisciplinary care for patients with life-threatening or complex medical conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 24/7 clinical management and supervision of critically ill patients in the ICU.
- Conduct patient assessments, establish diagnoses, and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, vasopressors, invasive monitoring, and other critical-care interventions.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies, cardiac arrests, and rapid deterioration of patients.
- Perform or supervise critical-care procedures such as central venous catheterization, arterial lines, airway management, and other procedures within approved scope of practice.
- Review investigations including blood tests, ABG, imaging, ECG, and microbiology reports.
- Coordinate care with consultants, surgeons, emergency physicians, nursing staff, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in multidisciplinary ICU rounds and discuss treatment plans with the treating team.
- Communicate effectively with patients’ relatives regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment options,
and clinical progress.
- Ensure appropriate use of antibiotics, blood products, medications, and other ICU resources.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records, progress notes, treatment orders, and discharge summaries.
- Follow hospital protocols, infection-control standards, patient-safety practices, and applicable medical regulations.
- Participate in ICU quality-improvement initiatives, clinical audits, mortality reviews, and patient-safety programs.
- Provide guidance, training, and supervision to junior doctors, residents, and ICU staff.
- Participate in emergency duty, night shifts, and on-call responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- MD/DNB in Anaesthesiology, General Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Critical Care, or an equivalent recognized qualification appropriate to the hospital’s requirements.
- Additional fellowship/qualification in Critical Care Medicine is desirable.
- Valid medical registration with the appropriate medical council.
Pay: ₹100,000.00 - ₹200,000.10 per month
