Key Responsibilities
1. Production Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and execute daily, weekly, and monthly production plans for SMT lines based on customer requirements and business priorities.
- Ensure effective capacity planning across SMT lines, machines, manpower, and shifts.
- Monitor production plan vs. actual output and take corrective actions for deviations.
- Optimize line loading, changeovers, cycle times, and machine utilization.
- Ensure adherence to production schedules and customer delivery commitments.
2. Material Planning & Availability
- Coordinate closely with Materials, Purchase, Stores, Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to ensure timely material availability.
- Monitor component availability, shortages, excess inventory, and critical materials affecting production.
- Drive material shortage analysis and establish preventive actions.
- Ensure effective inventory planning while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
3. SMT Capacity & Constraint Management
- Analyze SMT capacity requirements considering machine capability, product mix, cycle time, changeover, and manpower availability.
- Identify bottlenecks and develop capacity enhancement plans.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) and capacity ramp-up requirements.
- Plan for peak demand, new programs, and customer volume fluctuations.
4. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Purchase, and Program Management teams.
- Participate in daily production review meetings and drive closure of critical issues.
- Coordinate with customer/program teams for changes in demand and delivery requirements.
- Escalate critical capacity, material, or delivery risks to senior management.
5. KPI & Performance Management
- Track and improve key PPC and manufacturing metrics such as:
- Schedule adherence
- On-time delivery (OTD)
- Production plan achievement
- Line/machine utilization
- Capacity utilization
- Inventory levels
- Material shortage
- Changeover time
- WIP levels
- Production attainment
- Prepare and present MIS, dashboards, and management reports.
- Drive data-based decision-making and continuous improvement.
6. Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve planning accuracy, production flow, inventory control, and resource utilization.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing / Continuous Improvement initiatives within PPC.
- Develop standardized planning processes and escalation mechanisms.
- Use ERP/MRP systems and advanced planning tools to improve planning effectiveness.
7. Team Leadership
- Lead and develop the PPC team responsible for planning, scheduling, material coordination, and production control.
- Define team objectives, review performance, and build capability.
- Establish clear ownership for production planning and delivery commitments.
- Drive a proactive planning culture across the manufacturing organization.
Desired Candidate Profile:
- Robust understanding of SMT manufacturing processes and production flow.
- Knowledge of SMT machines, line balancing, changeover planning, and capacity calculation.
- Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems, SAP, production planning tools, and Excel/MIS dashboards.
- Knowledge of BOM, MRP, inventory management, WIP control, and material requirement planning.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Lead the Production Planning & Control (PPC) function for the SMT manufacturing operations, ensuring optimum production planning, material availability, capacity utilization, schedule adherence, and on-time delivery while balancing customer requirements, inventory, and manufacturing capacity.
