Role- Head of Legal

Location -Mumbai

Job Role Purpose & Objective:

The Head of Legal will lead the legal function for the bank and will be a part of leadership team of the Bank. Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. This role involves providing strategic legal advice to senior management, managing litigation, overseeing contracts, and mitigating legal risks across all business operations. Will manage business segments such as MSME, SME, Inclusive Banking, Personal loans, Retail liabilities and emerging recent segments.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE

Strategic Legal Advisory:

- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on legal implications of business strategies, new projects, and policies.
- Develop and implement legal strategies aligned with organizational goals.

Legal Oversight, Audit & Risk Management:

- Implement the Bank legal risk policy and identify potential legal risks with mitigation strategies.
- Conduct audits of loan files as per RBI regulations.
- Predict and proactively address potential legal issues impacting the Bank.

Regulatory Compliance:

- Ensure adherence to Ensure adherence to banking laws, RBI guidelines, and other regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with regulators and manage legal aspects of inspections and audits.

Contract Management

- Draft, review, and negotiate complex agreements including loan documentation, vendor contracts to protect the Bank interests while ensuring compliance.

Litigation & Dispute Resolution:

- Manage all litigation matters, including coordination with external counsel.




- Provide advisory support to other legal teams across the Bank on critical matters.
- Represent the Bank in courts, tribunals, and regulatory forums as required.
- To assist the business in fostering recoveries from the legal standpoint.

Risk Management:

- Identify potential legal risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Implement compliance frameworks and conduct periodic audits.

Employee Relations, Disciplinary Action & Labour Law Advisory

- Advise on employee relations, disciplinary actions, staff accountability, labour law issues and POSH compliance.
- Conduct training sessions on POSH, labour laws, and Code of Conduct for employees.

Data Protection Implementation:

- Spearhead the data protection implementation across the Bank and ensure data protection strategies comply with the DPDP Law, and other relevant data privacy regulations within the banking sector.
- Will be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring bank data protection policies and handling data-related inquiries.

Team Leadership:

- Lead and mentor the legal team, fostering a culture of excellence and integrity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

- Strong knowledge of banking laws, RBI regulations, corporate governance, regulatory compliance and litigation management.
- Excellent contract negotiation and risk management skills.

Educational Qualifications:

- LLB/LLM from a reputed law school.

Total Experience

- 15-20 years of legal experience, with at least 8 years in a leadership role within Banking or Financial Services.
