Role Overview The General Manager Operations & Business Development will be responsible for the overall coordination and supervision of the companys day-to-day office operations.
The selected candidate will allocate responsibilities to employees, monitor the progress of important assignments, coordinate between different departments and ensure that tasks are completed within the required timelines.
In addition to internal office management, the candidate will represent NR Marines LLP in meetings with customers, government departments, shipyards, maritime organisations, OEMs, business partners and other stakeholders. The candidate will also be responsible for identifying new opportunities, developing professional relationships and supporting the expansion of the company’s business.
This is a hands-on leadership position and not merely an advisory or administrative role. The candidate must be willing and able to manage the office while also travelling for meetings, customer visits and business-development activities.
Key Responsibilities
Office Operations and Administration
- Manage and supervise the day-to-day functioning of the office.
- Allocate responsibilities to employees according to their capabilities and organisational priorities.
- Monitor the progress of assigned work and ensure timely completion.
- Establish effective systems for reporting, follow-up and accountability.
- Conduct regular reviews with team members regarding pending and priority matters.
- Coordinate between tendering, procurement, engineering, logistics, accounts, documentation and service-support functions.
- Monitor important correspondence, enquiries, tenders, purchase orders, inspections, dispatches, payments and project deadlines.
- Ensure that customer requirements and management instructions are properly communicated and implemented.
- Identify operational delays or bottlenecks and take timely corrective action.
- Maintain professional discipline, punctuality and accountability within the office.
- Handle urgent, sensitive or challenging situations confidently and practically.
- Provide regular operational updates and reports to the management.
Team Leadership and Supervision
- Lead, guide and supervise office personnel.
- Ensure proper allocation of work and clarity of individual responsibilities.
- Improve coordination between employees and departments.
- Review employee performance and identify areas requiring improvement.
- Motivate team members and encourage responsibility and ownership.
- Train junior employees in professional communication, customer handling, follow-up and documentation.
- Ensure that important matters are followed up consistently and do not remain unattended.
- Promote a professional, disciplined and result-oriented working environment.
- Act as a dependable senior point of contact for both employees and external stakeholders.
Business Development and Expansion
- Identify new business opportunities in the marine, shipbuilding, government, industrial and engineering sectors.
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Meet representatives of shipyards, government departments, maritime organisations, OEMs, consultants and private-sector companies.
- Represent NR Marines LLP during customer meetings, commercial discussions, exhibitions, conferences and industry events.
- Conduct regular visits to customers, project locations and partner organisations.
- Follow up on enquiries, proposals, tenders and ongoing commercial opportunities.
- Support the management in developing and implementing business-growth strategies.
- Identify new products, markets, OEMs, technology partners and business associates.
- Assist in commercial negotiations and support the conversion of opportunities into confirmed orders.
- Monitor upcoming projects, procurement plans, market developments and competitor activities.
- Maintain a structured record of leads, meetings, enquiries and business opportunities.
- Submit periodic reports on customer engagement, business-development activities and expected order conversions.
- Help expand the company’s presence across relevant government and private-sector markets.
Candidate Profile The ideal candidate should be a mature, dependable and energetic professional with a strong personality and leadership presence.

- Ability to communicate comfortably with senior government officials, defence personnel, shipyard representatives, business owners and technical professionals.
- Strong administrative, organisational and follow-up capabilities.
- Commercial awareness and a genuine interest in business development.
- Ability to conduct meetings and negotiations independently.
- Ability to handle difficult situations calmly and take practical decisions.
- Good working knowledge of email communication, Microsoft Office, presentations and reporting systems.
- Willingness to travel for customer meetings, project coordination and business-development activities.
- High standards of integrity, confidentiality and professional conduct.
- A hands-on, solution-oriented and result-driven approach.
Preferred Professional Background Preference will be given to candidates having experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Retired Commissioned Officer from the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Indian Army or Indian Air Force.
- Retired defence personnel with experience in administration, operations, logistics, procurement, engineering, maintenance or commercial coordination.
- Merchant Navy Captain, Chief Engineer,
Marine Engineer or other experienced maritime professional seeking a shore-based leadership role.
- Senior professional from a shipyard, marine-equipment company, engineering organisation, government contractor or industrial organisation.
- Professional with established contacts in the marine, shipbuilding, government or industrial sectors.
A marine, naval or merchant-navy background will be a strong advantage but is not mandatory. Candidates from other professional backgrounds may also be considered if they possess excellent leadership, office-management and business-development capabilities.
Educational Qualifications
- Graduate in any discipline from a recognised university or institution.
- Qualifications in Engineering, Marine Engineering, Business Administration, Operations, Logistics or Management will be preferred.
- Candidates with substantial defence, maritime or leadership experience may be considered based on their overall professional credentials.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 15 years of overall professional experience.
- Experience in team leadership, office administration, operations, customer coordination or business development is essential.
- Previous exposure to government organisations, shipyards, marine companies, engineering firms or institutional customers will be preferred.
- Retired defence officers and experienced merchant-navy professionals transitioning into a shore-based leadership position are encouraged to apply.
