Responsibilities
Cloud Platform Infrastructure Engineer Responsibilities
- Design, build, and/or set up cloud infrastructure, including projects and Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs).
- Provision, manage, optimize, and secure infrastructure.
- Operate, manage, and monitor the reliability and performance of the central platform and Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
- Manage CI/CD pipelines and tooling, and create reusable pipelines, processes, and tools for teams consuming the cloud platform services.
- Establish and enforce resource (e.g., usage quotas) and access (e.g., RBAC) policies, and secure workloads and tenants.
- Provide capacity reporting and cost optimization guidance.
- Oversee the company's cloud, application, and platform architecture.
- Troubleshoot and resolve cloud platform-wide issues or outages.
Skills Candidates must demonstrate hands-on experience and proficiency in the following areas of GCP:
- GCP Foundations Core & Security
- Hands-on experience in GCP Foundations, including Identity, Federation, IAM, and Security (covering network security, virtual machine (VM) security, secret management, and key management utilizing Cloud KMS).
- Expertise in Networking (VPC topology, VPC Peering, VPN, Cloud DNS) and implementing security controls (e.g., firewalls)
- Expertise in GCP security architecture and best practices for securing multi-tenant environments.
- Automation and IaC
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles for automating the creation and management of GCP resources.
- Experience in leveraging tools like Terraform for building and deploying production-capable IaC modules.
- Familiarity with repeatable deployment using Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD) practices with tools like Cloud Build and GitHub.
- Workloads
- Hands-on experience in at least two out of four GCP workloads below -
- Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), container orchestration (e.g., standard vs. autopilot), node pools, workload availability requirements, Cloud Run etc
- GCE
- GCVE
- Cloud Run/Cloud Functions
- Soft Skills
- Good communication skills necessary to conduct customer sessions (e.g., facilitating module workshops and technical deep dives).
Valuable to Have Criteria Skills that are beneficial for acceleration and comprehensive delivery:
- Observability: Experience defining resource and audit logging tools and processes, including setting up aggregated log sinks and critical alert types for communication.
- Security Posture: Familiarity with establishing governance controls such as Security Command Center configuration and defining organizational policies for restricting capabilities within GCP
Qualifications and Prior Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience on any major CSP: Cloud infrastructure design, network architecture design & implementation, Cloud security, logging & monitoring
- 2 years of experience client-facing roles, troubleshooting technical issues, and working with engineering/sales teams/customers.
- Customer facing cloud migration experience, including service discovery, assessment, planning, execution, and operations.
