Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced EPIC Integration Engineer with 5+ years of experience in healthcare integration, particularly with HL7 and FHIR standards. The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and supporting integrations between EPIC EHR and external healthcare applications, systems, and third-party platforms.

The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience with HL7 v2.x, FHIR APIs, EPIC interfaces, healthcare interoperability, interface engines, and troubleshooting integration issues.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain integrations between EPIC EHR and external healthcare systems.
- Develop and support HL7 v2.x interfaces, including ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU, MDM, and other healthcare message types.
- Develop and consume FHIR APIs for healthcare data exchange.
- Work with EPIC integration technologies such as HL7 interfaces, FHIR APIs, and web services.
- Analyze healthcare integration requirements and translate them into technical interface specifications.
- Perform HL7 message mapping, transformation, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Work with interface engines such as Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, or similar platforms.
- Integrate EPIC with laboratory systems, pharmacy systems, clinical applications, payer systems, and third-party healthcare applications.
- Troubleshoot interface failures, message errors, connectivity issues, and data mapping problems.
- Monitor production interfaces and ensure reliable data exchange between systems.
- Collaborate with clinical, business, QA, infrastructure, and application teams.
- Participate in integration testing, unit testing, system testing, and production deployment.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, interface specifications, mapping documents, and support procedures.




- Ensure integrations follow healthcare interoperability, security, privacy, and compliance requirements.

Required Skills

EPIC

- 5+ years of experience in healthcare IT integration.
- Hands-on experience working with EPIC EHR integrations.
- Understanding of EPIC interoperability capabilities and integration workflows.
- Experience with EPIC APIs and healthcare data exchange.

HL7

- Robust knowledge of HL7 v2.x standards.
- Experience with HL7 message types such as:

- ADT

- ORM

- ORU

- SIU

- MDM
- Strong understanding of HL7 segments, fields, components, and message structures.
- Experience in HL7 message transformation and mapping.

FHIR

- Strong understanding of FHIR standards and resources.
- Hands-on experience with FHIR REST APIs.
- Knowledge of common FHIR resources such as:

- Patient

- Practitioner

- Encounter

- Observation

- Condition

- Medication

- DiagnosticReport

- Appointment
- Experience with JSON/XML-based healthcare data exchange.
- Understanding of RESTful APIs, HTTP methods, authentication, and API integration.

Integration / Technical Skills

- Experience with one or more interface engines:

- Mirth Connect

- Rhapsody

- Cloverleaf

- Corepoint
- Strong API integration experience.
- Knowledge of REST/SOAP web services.
- Experience with JSON, XML, HTTP/HTTPS.
- SQL knowledge for data validation and troubleshooting.
- Experience with integration testing and production support.
- Knowledge of healthcare interoperability concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with EPIC Bridges.
- Experience with SMART on FHIR.
- Knowledge of OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect.
- Experience with healthcare APIs and interoperability platforms.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare data security requirements.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Experience with cloud-based healthcare integrations is a plus.
- EPIC certification or relevant EPIC integration experience is preferred.

Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Healthcare IT, or a related field.
