We are looking for a Digital Signal Processing Engineer to develop advanced signal-processing algorithms and real-time DSP systems for communication, RF, electronic intelligence (ELINT), signals intelligence (SIGINT), and software-defined radio (SDR) applications.
The role involves taking algorithms from mathematical concepts and system requirements through MATLAB/Python modelling, simulation and validation, and finally to real-time implementation on FPGA, DSP and embedded platforms.
You will work closely with RF, FPGA, embedded software and systems engineers to develop high-performance signal-processing solutions for next-generation defence and aerospace systems.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and implement DSP algorithms for digital communication, RF, ELINT, SIGINT and SDR systems.
- Develop and analyse modulation and demodulation algorithms for digital communication systems.
- Work with modulation schemes such as BPSK, QPSK, OQPSK, FSK, MSK, GMSK, QAM, DVB-S2, CPM and other communication waveforms.
- Develop algorithms for Carrier and symbol synchronization, Timing recovery, Frequency and phase estimation, Matched filtering, Channel estimation and equalization, Detection and classification, Spectrum analysis, etc.
- Develop DSP techniques for ELINT/SIGINT, including signal detection, characterization, parameter extraction and classification.
- Develop communication receivers and transmitters for SDR platforms.
- Model and simulate algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink and Python.
- Convert floating-point algorithms into fixed-point, bit-accurate implementations suitable for real-time hardware.
- Implement DSP algorithms on FPGA, DSP processors and embedded processors.
- Work with FPGA engineers to translate algorithms into Verilog/VHDL or FPGA-friendly architectures.
- Perform algorithm optimization for throughput, latency, memory utilization and FPGA resource utilization.
- Validate algorithms using simulation, recorded RF/IQ data and hardware measurements.
- Interface DSP algorithms with RF front ends, ADCs/DACs, SDRs and high-speed data converters.
- Participate in system-level debugging using spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes, logic analysers, vector signal analysers and RF test equipment.
- Analyse and implement algorithms based on IEEE papers, communication standards, technical publications and system specifications.
- Work with cross-functional RF, FPGA, embedded and systems teams to integrate DSP algorithms into complete products.
Required Skills:
- Strong fundamentals in Digital Signal Processing and Digital Communications.
- Strong understanding of sampling theory, Fourier transforms, filtering, correlation, convolution and spectral analysis.
- Good understanding of digital modulation and demodulation techniques.
- Hands-on experience with MATLAB and/or Python for algorithm development and simulation.
- Experience developing DSP algorithms from concept to simulation and hardware implementation.
- Good understanding of RF signal chains and Software Defined Radio architectures.
- Experience working with complex I/Q signals and IQ data processing.
- Solid analytical and mathematical problem-solving skills.
- Programming experience in Python, C or C++.
- Ability to understand and implement algorithms from technical papers and specifications.
Preferred Skills:
The following experience will be highly preferred:
- Hands-on experience with FPGA-based DSP development.
- Experience with Xilinx/AMD, Intel/Altera or equivalent FPGA platforms.
- Experience with SDR platforms and RF data converters.
- Experience working with RF transceivers, ADCs, DACs and FPGA-based RF signal-processing systems.
- Experience with Xilinx RFSoC or similar heterogeneous RF processing platforms.
- MATLAB / Simulink / Python / NumPy / SciPy
- Experience with fixed-point and bit-accurate DSP modelling.
- Experience implementing DSP algorithms in FPGA using RTL or HLS.
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and validation.
- Experience with RF test equipment and IQ data capture/analysis.
- Experience developing communication receivers/transmitters or modems.
- Experience in ELINT, SIGINT, COMINT, EW or RF intelligence systems.
- Experience with radar signal processing is an advantage.
- Knowledge of FEC/channel coding, including LDPC, Turbo, Reed-Solomon or convolutional coding.
- Knowledge of OFDM, spread spectrum, DSSS/FHSS or anti-jamming techniques is an advantage.
- Experience with signal detection, classification, direction finding, DOA/AOA or spectrum monitoring is an advantage.
