About the Role
Venttup is looking for an experienced Programmer Cum Operator – CNC Laser Cutting & Sheet Metal Bending with robust hands-on experience in programming, machine setup, and operating CNC laser cutting and sheet-metal bending/press-brake machines.
The candidate will be responsible for preparing and modifying CNC programs, nesting layouts, selecting appropriate tooling and bend sequences, setting up machines, monitoring production, and ensuring dimensional accuracy and quality of finished components.
The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of sheet-metal fabrication, CNC laser cutting, press-brake/bending operations, CAD/CAM software, engineering drawings, bend specifications, and precision measurement.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and program CNC laser cutting and sheet-metal bending/press-brake machines as per production requirements.
- Prepare, modify, and optimize CNC laser cutting programs based on engineering drawings and production requirements.
- Prepare and optimize nesting layouts to maximize material utilization and minimize material wastage.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, 2D/3D CAD files, dimensions, tolerances, bend allowances, and bend specifications.
- Understand sheet-metal drawings and determine appropriate cutting and bending sequences.
- Set up laser cutting machines by selecting appropriate cutting parameters, nozzles, lenses, and machine settings based on material and thickness.
- Set up press-brake/bending machines by selecting appropriate punches, dies, tooling, bend sequences, and machine parameters.
- Verify correct material grade, thickness, orientation, and job identification before starting production.
- Load and unload sheet-metal components/materials safely and ensure proper job positioning and setup.
- Perform first-piece inspection and verify critical dimensions before proceeding with batch production.
- Use appropriate precision measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, angle gauges, and other inspection tools.
- Make necessary program, tool-offset, and machine-parameter adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy.
- Monitor machine operation, cutting quality, bending accuracy, tool condition, and finished-part quality.
- Identify and troubleshoot basic cutting defects, bending defects, dimensional deviations, burrs, deformation, and other quality issues.
- Optimize programs and machining parameters to improve productivity, cycle time, material utilization, and overall production efficiency.
- Ensure proper handling, identification, and traceability of raw materials and finished components.
- Maintain accurate production records, job status, setup information, and inspection records.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Engineering, and other relevant teams to resolve production and quality-related issues.
- Follow production schedules and ensure timely completion of assigned jobs.
- Maintain machine cleanliness, tools, fixtures, and work areas in proper condition.
- Follow all safety, quality, production, and housekeeping procedures.
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience in CNC Laser Cutting and Sheet Metal Bending/Press-Brake operations.
- Practical experience in CNC programming and program modification.
- Good knowledge of laser cutting parameters, nesting, material utilization,
and machine setup.
- Good knowledge of press-brake setup, tooling, punch/die selection, bend sequence, and bend parameters.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and 2D/3D CAD drawings.
- Good understanding of dimensions, tolerances, bend allowances, bend deductions, and bend specifications.
- Experience with CAD/CAM or laser programming/nesting software.
- Good knowledge of sheet-metal fabrication processes.
- Ability to perform first-piece inspection and dimensional verification.
- Knowledge of precision measuring instruments and basic inspection techniques.
- Ability to identify and correct basic programming, setup, cutting, and bending-related issues.
- Basic understanding of GD&T; will be an added advantage.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently as well as coordinate with cross-functional teams.
Qualification
- ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Tool & Die Making, Machinist, Sheet Metal, or a related technical discipline.
- Candidates with ITI in Machinist / Sheet Metal Worker / Turner along with relevant CNC laser and bending experience will be considered.
- Diploma holders in Mechanical / Production Engineering with strong hands-on experience will be preferred.
Experience
- 5–6 years of relevant experience in CNC Laser Cutting, Sheet Metal Bending/Press-Brake operation, programming, and machine setup.
- Candidates should have hands-on experience in both programming and operating CNC laser cutting and bending machines.
- Experience in precision engineering, aerospace, defence, automotive, or sheet-metal fabrication industries will be preferred.
- Experience with high-precision components and tight dimensional tolerances will be an added advantage.
