Key Responsibilities

1.

Azure

Infrastructure & Platform Management

- Design, deploy, and manage Azure-based infrastructure supporting the data catalog platform.

- Implement high availability, scalability, and disaster recovery strategies.

- Monitor and optimize performance, cost, and reliability of Azure resources.

- Manage services such as:

- Azure App Services / AKS

- Azure Storage (Blob/Data Lake)

- Azure Key Vault

- Azure Networking (VNETs, Private Endpoints)

2.

Access

Control & Identity Management

- Design and enforce fine-grained access control policies across the data catalog ecosystem.

- Implement RBAC and ABAC models using:

- Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)

- Unity Catalog permissions and governance model

- Manage:

- User groups, service principals, managed identities

- Role assignments and privilege escalation controls

- Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards and audit requirements.

3.

Unity

Catalog & Data Governance Integration

- Configure and integrate Unity Catalog with Azure-based data platforms (e.g., Databricks).

- Manage:

- Catalogs, schemas, and table-level permissions

- Data lineage, auditing, and metadata governance

- Align Unity Catalog policies with enterprise data governance frameworks.

- Collaborate with data engineering teams to enforce secure data access patterns.

4. Integration & API Management

- Design and implement API-based integrations between the data catalog tool and:

- Azure services

- Databricks / Unity Catalog

- External systems (e.g., ingestion tools, metadata services)

- Develop and manage:

- REST API integrations

- Authentication patterns (OAuth2, Managed Identity)

- Troubleshoot and optimize API performance and reliability.

5. Security & Compliance





- Implement security best practices including:

- Key management via Azure Key Vault

- Network isolation (Private Endpoints, NSGs)

- Encryption (at rest and in transit)

- Conduct access reviews, audit logging, and compliance checks.

- Support security audits and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, SOC2).

6. Automation & DevOps

- Automate deployment and configuration using:

- ARM templates / Bicep / Terraform

- CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions)

- Implement infrastructure-as-code for repeatable and scalable environments.

- Maintain version control and deployment standards.

7. Monitoring & Troubleshooting

- Set up monitoring using:

- Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights

- Proactively identify and resolve:

- Access issues

- Integration failures

- Performance bottlenecks

- Provide L2/L3 production support

Required Skills & Experience

Core Skills

- Solid experience with Microsoft Azure (5+ years).

- Deep understanding of:

- Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)

- RBAC, IAM, and security governance

- Hands-on experience with Unity Catalog (Databricks).

Technical Expertise

- Azure services:

- Compute, Storage, Networking, Security

- Identity:

- OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SSO

- API Integration:

- REST APIs, authentication flows

- Infrastructure as Code:

- Terraform / Bicep / ARM templates

Data Platform Knowledge

- Familiarity with:

- Databricks ecosystem

- Data cataloging tools (e.g., Purview, Alation, Collibra, or similar)

- Understanding of:

- Data governance

- Metadata management

- Data lineage concepts

Programming / Scripting

- Proficiency in:

- Python (preferred)

- PowerShell or Bash

- Experience with automation and scripting for cloud operations.
