Own the numbers. Strengthen the controls. Help build a more capable finance function.
Script Assist is looking for a hands-on Assistant Financial Controller who combines robust accounting fundamentals, practical financial-control experience and confidence working in an ERP.
You should be comfortable moving between the detail and the bigger picture: investigating an invoice discrepancy, completing a reconciliation, explaining the monthly accounts and improving the process that produced them.
We are particularly interested in people currently working as a Finance Manager, Senior Finance Manager, Assistant Financial Controller, Assistant Finance Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager or Entity Controller .
You may have trained in audit before moving into industry, or developed broad financial ownership within a growing business.
What matters is that you have personally operated finance processes—not only audited them, advised on them or managed one narrow activity.
We use Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central , but previous Dynamics experience is not essential . Strong accounting experience in SAP, Oracle Financials, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Workday Financial Management or another comparable ERP is highly relevant.
About Script Assist
Script Assist is a UK healthcare technology company providing the software and operating infrastructure behind complex private clinical and pharmacy services.
Our platform connects clinics, pharmacies, prescribers, patients and operational teams, supporting tens of thousands of structured clinical and pharmacy transactions each month.
We provide the technology; we do not provide clinical care.
We are a growing SaaS business with a lean operating model and key enterprise customer relationships. The distinctive finance challenge is translating customer agreements and operational activity into complete, accurate billing, reliable accounting and clear financial reporting .
We are strengthening our finance processes and controls as the business develops. This role offers substantial hands-on responsibility and close collaboration with finance leadership, founders and operational teams.
Previous healthcare experience is not required. Strong financial ownership and sound judgement are.
The role
You will take increasing responsibility across:
Day-to-day accounting and month-end close → customer billing and revenue → cash and working capital → financial controls → ERP and process improvement.
We need someone who can understand the complete financial picture while remaining willing and able to do the underlying work.
This is not a role where you only review dashboards or delegate the accounting. It is an opportunity to build and operate dependable finance processes in a growing international business.
? What you will ownAccounting, month-end close and reporting
- Prepare and review bookkeeping entries, journals, accruals, prepayments and supporting schedules.
- Own month-end activities, bank reconciliations and balance-sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving unexplained items.
- Produce accurate management accounts,
cash-flow information and clear explanations of financial movements.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Coordinate supporting information for external accountants, auditors and specialist advisers.
You should understand how the numbers were produced—not simply whether the report was delivered on time. Customer billing, revenue and accounts receivable
- Translate customer agreements and approved commercial changes into accurate billing calculations.
- Reconcile relevant operational activity and source data to invoices, identifying missing, duplicated or incorrectly priced items.
- Maintain clear supporting calculations, approved pricing records and evidence for customer charges.
- Investigate billing discrepancies, manage appropriate credit-note processes and support the resolution of customer queries.
- Reconcile invoicing, revenue accounting, receipts and outstanding balances, keeping billing and accounting treatment appropriately distinguished.
- Improve the reliability and efficiency of the contract-to-invoice and order-to-cash processes.
We are especially interested in experience involving contract-specific pricing, subscription billing, usage-based billing, transaction-based charges, service-delivery billing or other non-standard invoicing arrangements .
The central question is
How do we know that everything we should have billed has been billed—and that every invoice is correct? Internal controls and process improvement
- Identify financial risks across billing, purchasing, payments, payroll inputs and financial reporting.
- Introduce or improve practical approval processes, reconciliations, review controls and supporting documentation.
- Strengthen controls over customer and supplier master data, pricing changes, credit notes and bank-detail changes.
- Establish clear responsibilities, appropriate segregation of duties and independent approvals for sensitive transactions.
- Build useful close checklists, process documentation and audit trails.
- Work with commercial, operational and technical colleagues to address problems at their source.
We need proportionate controls that work in everyday operations , not unnecessary bureaucracy. Experience implementing controls is particularly valuable. Experience only auditing or testing controls is not sufficient on its own.
Cash, expenditure and financial operations
- Maintain visibility over cash, receivables, upcoming payments and working-capital requirements.
- Prepare and review payment runs within agreed approval arrangements.
- Review payroll inputs, recurring software costs and supplier charges for completeness and accuracy.
- Identify unnecessary expenditure, unresolved balances and recurring operational issues.
- Keep routine financial operations organised, documented and dependable.
ERP, data and finance systems
- Use the finance ERP confidently across accounting, reporting, reconciliations and operational processes.
- Understand how transactions move between source systems, subledgers and the general ledger.
- Improve reporting, accounting dimensions, data quality and workflows.
- Build controlled Excel or reporting tools where needed, with checks that make errors visible.
- Work with internal colleagues or external specialists on system changes rather than relying indefinitely on manual workarounds.
ERP experience: broader than Dynamics Hands-on accounting experience in an ERP or substantial enterprise financial-management system is essential.
Relevant systems include:
ERP familyRelevant experienceMicrosoft Dynamics Dynamics 365 Business Central, D365 BC, Dynamics NAV, Dynamics 365 Finance, Dynamics AX Oracle Financials Oracle Fusion Cloud Financials, Oracle E-Business Suite / EBS Financials Oracle NetSuite NetSuite ERP and Financials SAP SAP S/4HANA Finance, SAP ECC / FI, SAP Business One Sage Sage Intacct Workday Workday Financial Management
You only need strong experience in one relevant environment , not all of them.
We are looking for someone who has used these systems to run accounting and financial processes . ERP implementation consulting, system administration or narrow data-entry experience alone will not meet the requirement.
Experience confined to QuickBooks or Xero , without relevant ERP experience elsewhere in your career, is not the background we are targeting.
We will consider a strong finance operator who needs to learn Business Central. We are not limiting the search to existing Dynamics specialists.
The background we are looking for
You are likely to bring:
- A recognised professional accounting qualification: CA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent .
- Typically 6–10 years of post-qualification experience , including several years in industry. Relevant scope matters more than an exact number.
- Hands-on ownership of accounting, month-end close and reconciliations for a business, legal entity or substantial business unit.
- Meaningful involvement in billing, revenue, receivables and cash—not only general-ledger reporting.
- Experience introducing or improving financial controls and operating processes.
- Confidence working independently in an ERP-based finance environment.
- Strong Excel and analytical skills, with the ability to interrogate data and substantiate calculations.
- Explicit written and spoken English and the confidence to work with UK stakeholders.
- Willingness to perform detailed accounting work as well as improve the wider function.
You do not need to have already held the top finance title. You do need evidence that you can own outcomes with limited supervision . Audit training followed by industry experience is particularly attractive A background at EY, Deloitte, PwC or KPMG , followed by broad finance responsibilities in industry, would be valuable.
However, Big Four experience is a preference, not a requirement .
We are equally interested in strong candidates from other accounting firms or industry backgrounds who can demonstrate rigorous accounting, independent judgement and practical ownership.
Relevant industry environments include B2B SaaS, technology, professional services, IT services and other businesses with contractual or operationally complex customer billing .
Your employer’s name is less important than the accounting processes you have personally owned and improved.
