The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) is an autonomous institution set up by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to promote the nucleation and growth of active groups in astronomy and astrophysics at Indian universities. IUCAA aims to be a Centre of excellence within the university sector for teaching, research and development in astronomy and astrophysics.

based applications using JAVA programming language with clear understanding of OOPs concepts.

Responsibilities The incumbent is required to have expertise in configuring and modernization and customizing the instance of JIRA for the

Inventory Control System (ICS) for LIGO-India. The incumbent shall be responsible for assisting in converting requirements into software framework for managing day to day activities such as parts locating, inspections, testing, commissioning, assembly and shipping. Critical tasks assigned to the qualified candidate will be the following:

- Learn the current ICS/JIRA implementation.
- Understand the gaps in the current deployment.
- Work with logistics and engineering teams to determine

requirements.
- Undertake modernization of the ICS architecture and

codebase o Implement necessary bug fixes and performance improvements o Upgrade the underlying software framework and dependencies o focus on adding new features, and fine tune existing features.

- Ensure system readiness for large-scale logistics and

operational demands of the LIGO-India project.
- Improve documentation and long-term maintainability of the

system.

The job will require travel to Livingston, Louisiana. Prospective hires must have positive communication skills, the ability to work with some ambiguity in a complex environment and be able to work as a member of a geographically distributed team.

Job Duties:

- Participate in the review and refinement of the LIGO Engineering

group's Inventory Control System and its workflow implementation in JIRA.
- Research and investigate current use of JIRA features and

capabilities. Make and implement a plan for improvements.




- Research JIRA plug-ins and address incompatibilities and de-

installation of unnecessary plug-ins.
- Research required additional JIRA plug-ins and implement

accordingly.
- Research, plan, and implement linking ICS to git for version

control, and tracking bugs and issues related to software builds.
- Research, develop, and implement required ICS training for

internal Engineering personnel as well as for non-Engineering groups, with training tailored to groups' needs.
- Continue to refine the ICS dashboard, and reporting tools for

ease of use.

Basic programming & development skills:

- Java programming experience.
- Familiarity in developing JIRA.
- SQL database administration, including MySQL.
- Business process development and implementation

experience.

Preferred programming & development skills:

- Requirements gathering and translation experience.

- Ability to multi-task well.

- Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle processes.

- Familiarity with Git.

- Experience developing software for scientific or engineering

use.
- Experience with Apache, Java, Tomcat, and Linux operating
