Experience: 12 years of professional software development experience, with significant experience in web applications, e-commerce platforms, system integration and technical architecture.

Job Type: Full-Time, Remote

Compensation: Competitive, based on experience and expertise.

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Solutions Architect / Technical Lead to take ownership of the technical direction and day-to-day technical leadership of our engineering team.

The role is responsible for designing scalable and maintainable solutions across WordPress, WooCommerce, PHP, MySQL, APIs, third-party integrations, cloud/hosting infrastructure and modern web technologies.

The successful candidate will act as the primary technical authority and escalation point for the development team, working closely with the BA Lead, QA Lead and Project Manager to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions and deliver them successfully.

This is a hands-on architecture and technical leadership role. The candidate should be comfortable reviewing code, debugging complex issues and getting into implementation details when necessary, while primarily adding value through architecture, technical decision-making, mentoring, planning, risk management and engineering leadership.

A key objective of this role is to take ownership of day-to-day technical decisions and engineering coordination, allowing the CTO to focus on company strategy, product direction, major technology decisions, client relationships and business leadership.

Key Responsibilities1. Technical Leadership & Team Ownership

- Act as the technical leader for the engineering team.
- Serve as the first technical escalation point for developers.
- Provide technical direction, mentoring and guidance to developers.
- Review technical approaches and implementation plans.
- Make day-to-day technical decisions without unnecessary escalation to the CTO.
- Establish engineering standards, coding practices and development processes.
- Conduct or oversee code reviews and architectural reviews.
- Identify technical debt and establish practical remediation plans.
- Build the team's ability to solve complex technical problems independently.

2. Solution & Application Architecture

- Own the architecture of complex WordPress and WooCommerce applications.
- Translate business and functional requirements into technical solutions.
- Define application components, data flows, APIs, integrations and dependencies.
- Evaluate architectural alternatives and clearly communicate trade-offs.
- Identify scalability, reliability, security and maintainability risks.
- Create and maintain architecture diagrams and technical documentation.
- Ensure new features fit into the overall platform architecture rather than becoming isolated implementations.

3. WordPress & WooCommerce

- Design and oversee complex WooCommerce implementations.
- Guide architecture for custom themes, plugins and WooCommerce extensions.
- Establish appropriate approaches for products, attributes, options, pricing, metadata, cart, checkout and order workflows.
- Review third-party plugins and assess their technical suitability and risks.
- Ensure customizations follow WordPress and WooCommerce best practices.
- Guide the team in maintaining upgradeability and long-term maintainability.

4. ShapeDiver & Product Configuration

- Provide technical ownership for ShapeDiver and other product configurator integrations.
- Design the interaction between the configurator, WooCommerce, ERP/pricing systems and order workflows.
- Guide configuration metadata, product options, add-ons and pricing integration.
- Review communication between the configurator and WooCommerce.
- Identify performance, API, browser and integration constraints.
- Ensure the architecture can scale as products, configurations and storefronts increase.

5. Enterprise Integrations

- Architect integrations between WooCommerce and external systems including:
- ERP
- Pricing and inventory systems
- Payment gateways
- CRM systems
- Shipping providers
- Third-party SaaS platforms
- REST APIs
- Product configurators
- Define API contracts, authentication, data mapping, error handling, retries, logging and synchronization strategies.
- Identify integration failure scenarios and appropriate recovery mechanisms.
- Ensure integrations are reliable, observable and maintainable.

6. Technical Planning, Estimation & Delivery

- Work with the BA Lead to understand requirements and identify technical implications.
- Convert functional requirements into technical implementation plans.
- Break large requirements into technical components and development tasks.
- Provide technical estimates and identify dependencies.
- Identify technical risks and blockers before they affect project delivery.
- Work closely with the PM on technical sequencing, dependencies and delivery planning.
- Provide technical status and risk information to the PM.
- Ensure developers have sufficient technical clarity before implementation begins.

7. Performance & Scalability

- Diagnose application, PHP, MySQL, AJAX, caching and infrastructure performance issues.
- Optimize database queries and data access patterns.
- Establish appropriate caching and object-caching strategies.
- Review application architecture for scalability.
- Investigate production performance problems and conduct root-cause analysis.
- Define and monitor meaningful technical performance metrics.

8. Infrastructure, DevOps & Reliability

- Work with infrastructure/hosting teams on application architecture and deployment requirements.
- Understand Linux, PHP-FPM, web servers, MySQL, Redis/object caching, CDN and monitoring.
- Guide development, QA, staging and production environment strategy.
- Establish appropriate Git, branching, CI/CD, deployment and rollback practices.
- Participate in production incident investigation and resolution.
- Improve application reliability, observability and recoverability.

9. Security

- Establish secure development and architecture practices.
- Review authentication, authorization, API security, data protection and input validation.
- Identify application and infrastructure security risks.
- Guide remediation of vulnerabilities.
- Participate in security and architecture reviews.

10. Collaboration with BA, QA & PMWith BA

- Review requirements for technical feasibility.
- Identify missing technical details and edge cases.
- Provide technical alternatives and constraints.
- Help establish technically meaningful acceptance criteria.

With QA

- Identify high-risk areas requiring additional testing.
- Ensure architecture and implementation are testable.
- Support complex defect investigation.
- Analyze recurring defects for underlying technical causes.
- Support release readiness decisions.

With PM

- Provide technical estimates and dependencies.
- Identify technical risks and blockers.
- Provide technical status updates.
- Help sequence technical work.

- Participate in client technical discussions when required.
- Represent the technical team in client discussions when delegated by the CTO.
- Explain technical approaches, constraints and trade-offs in business-friendly language.
- Prepare technical recommendations and solution options for client discussions.

This is a critical responsibility of the role.

- Become the primary technical point of contact for the engineering team.
- Take ownership of day-to-day technical decisions and escalations.
- Investigate technical problems before escalating them to the CTO.
- Present solutions and recommendations rather than simply presenting problems.
- Keep the CTO informed of significant architectural decisions, technical risks and production issues.
- Convert CTO-level technical direction into actionable plans for the engineering team.
- Represent the CTO on appropriate technical matters when delegated.
- Reduce the CTO's involvement in routine architecture, development, debugging, infrastructure and integration decisions.
