Job Description – Design & Development Engineer | UpholsteryCompany: Wakefit Innovations LimitedFunction: Design & Engineering – FurnitureLocation: Hosur, Tamil NaduExperience: 6+ YearsRole: Design & Development Engineer RoleRole SummaryWe are looking for a Design & Development Engineer with strong upholstery experience to join our Furniture Design & Engineering team in Hosur.The role will focus on developing upholstered furniture products from concept to production, combining design thinking, engineering fundamentals and hands-on knowledge of upholstery construction, materials and manufacturing processes.The ideal candidate should understand how upholstered furniture is designed, engineered, prototyped and mass-manufactured, while working closely with manufacturing, sourcing, quality and other cross-functional teams.Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Design & DevelopmentDevelop upholstered furniture products from concept to production.Create and refine product designs considering functionality, comfort, aesthetics, durability and manufacturability.Develop 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings using SolidWorks.Translate design concepts into production-ready engineering solutions.Upholstery EngineeringStrong understanding of upholstery construction, foam, fabric/leather, webbing, stitching, frames and cushioning systems.Develop upholstery specifications, construction details and manufacturing methods.Work on sofas, chairs, beds and other upholstered furniture.Optimize designs for comfort, durability,



material utilization and ease of manufacturing.Troubleshoot design and production issues related to upholstery construction.Prototyping & ProductionWork closely with prototype teams to develop and validate recent products.Conduct design reviews and incorporate feedback from prototypes and production trials.Support DFM/DFA and ensure designs are suitable for scalable manufacturing.Identify opportunities for cost optimization, process improvement and standardization.Engineering DocumentationPrepare detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings.Develop BOMs, material specifications and engineering documentation.Coordinate with manufacturing and sourcing teams for material and component requirements.Maintain design documentation and product specifications.Cross-functional CollaborationCollaborate with Furniture Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, SCM and Operations teams.Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners on components, materials and processes.Support new product launches and ensure smooth transition from development to production.What We’re Looking For6+ years of experience in Furniture Design & Development / Upholstered Furniture / Product Engineering.Strong hands-on experience in upholstery product development.Proficiency in SolidWorks; AutoCAD knowledge is anadded advantage.Good understanding of foam, fabric, leather, stitching, webbing, wooden/metal frames and upholstery construction.Experience in prototyping, DFM, product development and mass manufacturing.Strong understanding of furniture manufacturing processes and materials.Ability to interpret engineering drawings and translate concepts into production-ready designs.Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.Preferred BackgroundCandidates from upholstered furniture, sofas, recliners, beds, seating, furniture manufacturing or related product-development environments would be preferred.Why Join Us?Be part of Wakefit's Furniture Design & Engineering team and contribute to building a technology-driven, highly scalable furniture manufacturing ecosystem—where design, engineering and manufacturing come together to create products for millions of homes.Location: Hosur | Design & Engineering – Furniture
