Job Description – CSSD In-Charge

Position: CSSD In-Charge
Experience: 3–8 Years

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced and responsible CSSD In-Charge to manage the day-to-day operations of the Central Sterile Supply Department and ensure the proper cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical instruments and supplies.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage and supervise the daily operations of the CSSD department.
- Ensure proper decontamination, cleaning, inspection, packing, sterilization, and storage of instruments.
- Operate and monitor autoclaves, ETO and other sterilization equipment as applicable.
- Ensure compliance with hospital infection-control and sterilization protocols.
- Supervise, guide, and allocate duties to CSSD staff.
- Maintain sterilization logs, equipment records, chemical/biological indicator records, and other required documentation.
- Ensure proper segregation and handling of contaminated and sterile materials.
- Coordinate with Operation Theatre (OT), ICU, wards, emergency, and other clinical departments for timely supply of sterile instruments.
- Monitor CSSD inventory and ensure adequate availability of sterile supplies.
- Conduct regular checks of sterilization processes and equipment.
- Ensure proper maintenance and timely servicing of CSSD equipment.




- Train staff regarding sterilization procedures, infection control, safety practices, and SOPs.
- Support internal and external audits and maintain required NABH documentation and standards.
- Investigate and report sterilization failures, equipment issues, or infection-control incidents.
- Prepare departmental reports and maintain all necessary records.

Qualification

- Diploma / Degree in CSSD / Sterilization Technology / Nursing / Allied Healthcare, as applicable.
- Additional certification in CSSD or infection control will be an advantage.

Required Skills

- Solid knowledge of sterilization and infection-control procedures.
- Good team-management and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of CSSD equipment and sterilization indicators.
- Good documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with clinical departments.
- Knowledge of NABH standards and hospital SOPs.

Preferred Experience

3–8 years of relevant experience in a hospital CSSD department, preferably with experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
