Job Purpose

To perform accurate and timely physical, chemical, and quality analysis of coal, coke, and related raw materials in accordance with established laboratory procedures. The role is responsible for ensuring reliable test results, maintaining laboratory equipment, and supporting quality control and process optimization.

Key Responsibilities

- Collect and prepare representative samples of coal, coke, and related materials for laboratory testing.
- Carry out routine physical and chemical analysis of coal and coke.
- Determine key quality parameters such as:
- Moisture
- Ash
- Volatile Matter (VM)
- Fixed Carbon (FC)
- Sulphur
- Gross Calorific Value (GCV)

Required Qualifications

- Diploma/B.Sc./B.Tech. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related discipline.
- Candidates with qualifications in Analytical Chemistry or experience in coal/coke testing will be preferred.

Experience

- 1–5 years of relevant experience in coal/coke testing, steel plants, coke plants, mineral laboratories,



or quality control laboratories.
- Freshers with relevant academic knowledge and laboratory exposure may also be considered for trainee positions.

Technical Skills

- Positive knowledge of coal and coke quality parameters and testing methods.
- Knowledge of proximate and ultimate analysis of coal is desirable.
- Familiarity with GCV determination using a bomb calorimeter.
- Knowledge of sulphur analysis and ash determination.
- Understanding of sampling, sample preparation, crushing, pulverizing, and sieving techniques.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory calibration and quality control procedures.
- Ability to interpret laboratory test results and identify abnormal results.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Excel and laboratory reporting systems.
