Ocean Commercial Manager

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Ocean Commercial Manager to manage and develop the Ocean Freight business. The role will be responsible for ocean freight procurement, carrier management, pricing, trade lane development, commercial planning, and profitability.

The position will work closely with Sales, Pricing, Operations, and overseas teams to develop competitive ocean freight solutions and support business growth.

Responsibilities Ocean Freight & Product Management

- Develop and implement Ocean Freight strategies based on business requirements.
- Manage FCL and LCL ocean freight services and special equipment requirements.
- Identify opportunities to develop new trade lanes and improve existing services.
- Support customized ocean freight solutions for customers.

Carrier Management & Procurement

- Manage commercial relationships with shipping lines, NVOCCs, co-loaders, and consolidators.
- Negotiate ocean freight rates, contracts, service agreements, and spot rates.
- Review carrier rates, capacity, allocations, and service levels.
- Monitor container availability and loading requirements.
- Track carrier performance and coordinate resolution of service issues.

Trade Lane & Commercial Management

- Develop and manage key trade lanes including Europe, USA, Latin America, Middle East, Africa, and Intra-Asia.
- Monitor freight rates, market movements, GRIs, PSS, equipment availability, and capacity.
- Support customer RFQs, tenders, and commercial opportunities.
- Analyze trade lane performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
- Coordinate with overseas offices and logistics partners on commercial opportunities.

Sales Support

- Provide Ocean Freight expertise and commercial support to the Sales team.
- Participate in customer meetings and commercial discussions when required.




- Support pricing and solution development for recent and existing customers.
- Assist with contract and rate negotiations.

Revenue & Profitability

- Monitor ocean freight volumes, revenue, yields, procurement costs, and gross profit.
- Identify opportunities to improve margins through effective procurement and capacity planning.
- Review product and trade lane performance.
- Prepare regular commercial and management reports.

Operations Coordination

- Work with Operations teams to support smooth shipment execution.
- Assist in resolving capacity constraints, service disruptions, and customer escalations.
- Coordinate with internal teams to improve service quality and operational efficiency.
- Ensure customer requirements and internal processes are followed.

Market & Compliance

- Monitor ocean freight market trends, carrier developments, and competitor activities.
- Keep updated on relevant shipping, customs, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify commercial and operational risks and support appropriate solutions.
- Provide market and business updates to management.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, International Business, or a related field.
- MBA or relevant professional qualification will be an advantage.

Experience

- 7+ years of experience in Freight Forwarding and Logistics.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Ocean Freight Product, Procurement, Pricing, or Commercial functions.
- Experience in negotiating rates and commercial terms with shipping lines.
- Strong understanding of FCL and LCL ocean freight.




- Knowledge of ODC / special equipment and related ocean freight requirements.
- Experience working with shipping lines, NVOCCs, co-loaders, consolidators, and overseas partners.
- Experience in trade lane management, ocean pricing, and profitability analysis.

Candidate Profile The candidate should have strong knowledge of Ocean Freight, commercial and procurement processes, carrier management, and international trade lanes. The candidate should be comfortable working with Sales, Pricing, Operations, and overseas teams. Experience in the freight forwarding and logistics industry.

Pay: ₹1,800,000.00 - ₹2,400,000.00 per year
