Hyderabad
This is a hardware job. You will lay out boards, populate and bring them up on a bench, tune a radio link and go outside to measure what its range actually is, and climb a mast at a helipad to make the thing work.
WE ARE NOT HIRING A SOFTWARE ENGINEER. The firmware architecture and the ground-station software sit with our founding innovator and will continue to. You will write firmware — plenty of it, bare-metal and RTOS, against a datasheet and a scope, because that is part of hardware engineering. You will not own the software stack. If what you want is to write code for a living, this role will disappoint you inside a month and we would rather say so now.
2–4 years. Hyderabad. First two months at Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on a live deployment.
ABOUT US
BharatVijay Nexgen Innovation Private Limited is a DPIIT-recognised Indian startup (DIPP260346) in aeronautics, aerospace and defence equipment, founded by Lt Col Shailendra Thapliyal (Retd).
Our product is the Digital Windsock — an Automatic Helipad Weather Reporting System. It is solar-powered and fully autonomous, measures wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, pressure and rainfall, and delivers that weather to pilots through six independent channels: VHF/UHF radio broadcast out to roughly 10 km, an aviation data link that aircraft decode on approach, ATIS-style local audio at the pad, a remote display in the operations office, SMS, and network integration over 4G with store-and-forward. It is built to run unattended for months, off-grid, where nobody is coming to reset it.
We are five people. Bootstrapped, no funding round.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
One person currently does all of it — mechanics, PCB, firmware, software, commissioning. Everything in our products has come off his bench. This role exists to build a hardware capability around him. You will sit next to the person who built the product and take real ownership of its physical layers.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
From month three:
the RF and antenna chain and the power system, end to end. Antenna selection and siting, matching, link budget, the measured range at each site, and the solar and battery sizing that keeps a unit alive between them. You are the person on the phone when a link degrades at a customer site.
At around month four: you commission a unit end to end, on site, on your own. Clear that and your first salary review is brought forward and uncapped.
By around month six: one board revision end to end — schematic, layout, fabrication files, bring-up and test record.
WHAT WE NEED YOU TO HAVE EVIDENCED
At least three of the following, and at least one from the first two:
- PCB design — schematic and layout in KiCad, Altium, Eagle, OrCAD or EasyEDA, fabricated, populated and debugged by you
- Board bring-up and component-level fault-finding — bare board to working, faults found with a scope, meter and logic analyser
- RF and wireless — a link you designed, matched or tuned, with range, RSSI or packet loss you measured outdoors
- Sensor integration and calibration against a reference instrument
- DC and solar power — panels, charge controller, battery, load budget, proven autonomy
- Mechanical design and fabrication — enclosures, brackets, mounts or masts from CAD through fabrication, with weatherproofing and ingress protection
- Qualification testing — EMI/EMC, thermal, vibration or environmental, with the documentation
- Field installation and commissioning of equipment at a customer or field site
Practical, and not a substitute for any of the above: embedded C and C++, Python for tools and test scripts,
bare-metal and RTOS firmware, Linux command line, practical networking, version control.
QUALIFICATION: B.E./B.Tech in ECE, Electronics, EEE, Mechatronics or Instrumentation. A Diploma holder with exceptional practical work will also be considered.
ON FRESHERS: we are hiring at 2–4 years. One narrow exception — if you have designed a PCB, had it fabricated, populated it, brought it up and made it work, and you can show us the board, apply and say plainly that you are a fresher. A breadboard project or an Arduino build is not that.
TERMS
₹6,00,000–₹9,00,000 per annum, fixed. One hundred per cent fixed pay, no variable component, paid on a fixed date every month. EPF from day one. ₹5,00,000 family medical floater including your parents, plus personal accident cover. Written salary review at 12 months with a committed minimum increase stated in your offer letter. Retention payments at 12 and 24 months. Annual tools and components budget. Field expenses reimbursed within seven days. Safety equipment provided and replaced when worn.
First two months at Gandhinagar on an active deployment — stay and travel paid by us over and above salary, plus a deployment allowance paid fortnightly in advance, one paid home trip, and a relocation allowance on return. The return date goes into your offer letter as a calendar date.
NOT FOR YOU IF you want a large structured corporate environment, a defined ticket queue, or a route into a software role. There is no ESOP at this stage and no work-from-home — the bench is in Hyderabad and the mast is in the field.
HOW TO APPLY — PLEASE READ. Applications are only accepted through this form: https://forms.gle/KVrQLFub1w4wu7RJ7
CVs emailed to us will not be read. The form takes about twelve minutes and asks for a link to photographs of hardware you have built, and for the last fault you found with a test instrument.
