The

Backend Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and operation of the platform's server-side systems and cloud infrastructure.

The role is approximately 70% application engineering and 30% infrastructure and operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs using Node.js and TypeScript.

- Design and maintain the PostgreSQL schema, including migrations, indexing, and query performance optimisation.

- Develop core platform services, including authentication, payments, notifications, search, and media handling.

- Manage AWS infrastructure, including compute, RDS, S3, CloudFront, IAM, networking, and cost management.

- Maintain development and staging environments on Railway with sufficient parity to production that defects are identified prior to release.

- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, and alerting.

- Maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures, including periodic restore testing against a defined recovery time objective.

- Maintain API documentation sufficient for independent integration by mobile and web engineering.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS





- 2+ years of production backend engineerin g experience, including

2+ years with Node.js and TypeScript

- .Demonstrated PostgreSQL proficiency, including production query performance troubleshooting

- .Hands-on experience deploying, securing, and operating production workloads on AWS

- .Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tooling

[AWS CDK / CloudFormatio n]

- .Experience integrating third-party services, including error handling and failure recovery

- .Practical application security experience, including secrets management and remediation of dependency vulnerabilities

- .Capacity to operate as the sole backend engineer for an extended period, and to identify when additional resourcing is required
