Position Summary The Subhas Chandra Bose (SCB) Chair of International Relations invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor. The position will have a robust research focus, complemented by a limited teaching responsibility, and will contribute to advancing the Chair’s academic, research, policy-engagement, programme and outreach agenda.

The Chair seeks candidates with research expertise in South Asia/India’s Neighbourhood/Asia/ and/or International Trade, International Political Economy and Economic Diplomacy.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake high-quality research, contribute to policy-oriented scholarship, develop publications and research projects, and participate actively in the Chair’s academic programme, institutional collaboration and other activities.

Roles and Responsibilities

- Undertake sustained, high-quality research leading to publications in reputed peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly outlets.
- Contribute to the Chair’s research agenda through working papers, policy briefs, research reports and edited publications.
- Develop a focused research programme in South Asia/India’s Neighbourhood and/or International Trade, International Political Economy and Economic Diplomacy.
- Contribute to research on India’s engagement with its neighbourhood and the wider regional and global order.




- Initiate and participate in collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects, including externally funded projects.
- Contribute to the organisation of conferences, roundtables, seminars, workshops and policy dialogues of the Chair.
- Build academic and policy networks with universities, think tanks, government institutions and other relevant organisations in India and internationally.
- Teach relevant undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Chanakya University and provide academic guidance and mentorship to students.
- Contribute to strengthening the Chair’s overall research profile, publications and policy engagement.

- Regional and global trade arrangements
- Supply chains, connectivity and economic security
- Trade, technology and geopolitics
- India’s economic engagement with Asia and the wider world





Candidates working at the intersection of these areas, including regional economic integration, connectivity, trade corridors, regional and global value chains, innovation and technology as drivers of growth, and political economy and international economic and technological engagements of South Asia, China and India’s proximate maritime geographies are particularly encouraged to apply.

Candidate Profile

- Ph.D. in International Relations, Political Science, International Political Economy, Economics, Public Policy, Area Studies, or a closely allied discipline.
- Preferably 1-3 years of research experience in an academic, research or policy institution, preferably with d.
- Preferably demonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
- An emerging record of high-quality scholarly publications.
- Evidence of a clearly defined and promising research agenda relevant to the Chair’s priorities.
- Ability to undertake both academic and policy-oriented research and communicate research findings to scholarly and wider policy audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively with researchers, practitioners and institutions in India and internationally.
- Public-facing scholarship and engagement with policy communities are desirable.
- Relevant language competence, particularly for candidates undertaking area-based research, is desirable.
