Job Summary

The Horticulturist will work closely with landscapers, gardeners, and other professionals to create and maintain aesthetically pleasing outdoor/indoor spaces. He will be responsible for selecting and installing plants, managing irrigation systems, and providing expert advice on plant care and maintenance. In this role, he may also be involved in designing and implementing sustainable gardening practices. Passion for plants and nature will be essential in creating and maintaining vibrant green spaces.

Responsibilities

- Provides professional advice on the selection, ordering, planting, and maintenance of trees, shrubs, ground covers, and turf grasses.
- Plans and designs annual and perennial flower beds.
- Grows potted plants and nursery stock and maintains records on the growing operation.
- Trains and supervises gardeners in proper methods and techniques of planting ornamental plants.
- Trains in the techniques of pruning, wound dressing, cavity repair, and the cabling and bracing of trees and shrubs.
- Advises on the preparation of orders for various types of plants and seeds.
- Manages inventories, maps, and labels trees and shrubs for maintenance purposes.
- Assists in the preparation of maintenance programs for the control of plant diseases and insects.
- Prepares fertilizer programs for various types of plants.
- Confers with landscape architects and other personnel in the selection of plants.
- Designs and plans horticulture projects, including gardens, parks, and landscapes.




- Implements sustainable gardening practices and promotes environmental conservation.
- Collaborates with landscapers and other professionals to ensure the successful execution of projects.
- Selects plants, trees, and shrubs based on environmental factors and design principles.

Education and Experience Requirements

- We prefer a Graduate from an accredited college or university in the relevant curriculum (B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Horticulture or Agriculture)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Thorough knowledge of ornamental horticulture in all phases.
- Proven experience in horticulture and landscaping.
- Knowledge of plant identification, cultivation, and maintenance techniques.
- Understanding of irrigation systems and watering practices.
- Gathering and analyzing data to support pest and disease control and assess environmental impact.
- Thorough knowledge of plant propagation and cultivation.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles of nursery management.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and the ability to supervise the work of others.
- Solid attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Passion for plants, nature, and sustainable gardening practices.
- Applying chemical treatments such as growth regulators and pesticides when required.
