Role Description The UTM Technician is a full time, on-site role based in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The technician is responsible for carrying out ultrasonic thickness measurements on marine structures, hulls, and equipment to assess condition, structural integrity, and compliance with industry standards and classification society requirements. Day-to-day activities include preparing inspection plans, calibrating and operating UTM equipment, documenting readings, and preparing clear reports for clients and internal engineering teams.

The role involves working on board vessels, offshore and onshore sites, assisting senior engineers during surveys, and following all safety procedures and company guidelines.



The UTM Technician collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, maintains equipment, and may support related inspection tasks such as rope access operations and remote inspection activities as needed.

Qualifications

- Candidates should possess practical skills in ultrasonic thickness gauging, including equipment calibration, data acquisition, and accurate recording of measurements on hulls and structural components.
- Candidates should possess core marine and technical skills such as basic ship structure knowledge, familiarity with marine engineering terminology, and understanding of classification society and industry inspection standards.
- Candidates should possess safety and operational skills, including adherence to HSE practices, safe working at heights or confined spaces, and the ability to follow on-site risk assessments and safety instructions.
- Candidates should possess reporting and documentation skills, including clear written communication, basic computer literacy, and the ability to prepare organized inspection reports and communicate findings to engineers and clients.
- Candidates should possess teamwork and client-facing skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with engineers and technicians, maintain professional behavior on board vessels and at client sites, and respond to instructions in a timely manner.
- Relevant qualifications such as a diploma or certificate in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field are beneficial, along with any recognized UTM or NDT certifications (e.g., UT Level II).
