Job Title: Kernel Engineer (Part Time / Freelance)

Location: 100% Work From Home — anywhere in India

About the Role

We are building IndianBrand Mobile OS — India's first 100% from-scratch operating system. We need a Kernel Engineer who can write bare-metal C code and understand how operating systems work at the lowest level. This is rare, exciting, and genuinely historic work.

Required Skills

- C Programming (expert level) — you must be comfortable writing C without any standard library
- x86 or ARM Assembly — basic understanding of Assembly language
- Operating system fundamentals — memory management, process scheduling, interrupts
- Linux development environment — comfortable on Ubuntu or similar
- GDB — debugging compiled code
- Git — version control

Key Responsibilities

- Write and improve kernel code in C — memory manager, interrupt handlers, process scheduler




- Write Assembly code for low-level hardware initialisation
- Test kernel changes in QEMU virtual machine
- Document code clearly for the team
- Collaborate asynchronously with other developers via Git and email
- Research and implement OS concepts from OSDev Wiki and reference documents

Phase 1 is already complete — bootloader, kernel, VGA driver, keyboard driver, and basic shell all working in QEMU. You will work on Phase 2 (memory manager, interrupts) and beyond.

Nice to Have

- Rust — for memory-protected kernel components
- ARM64 experience — for Phase 4 phone hardware port
- Prior OSDev or embedded systems experience
- Familiarity with QEMU, Bochs, or other emulators
- Understanding of device drivers
- Computer Science degree or equivalent self-taught background
