? Product Design Intern @ Neary ?
Good design isn't the file you open in Figma first. It's the question you ask before you open Figma at all.
Neary is a people-first app for real-world connection: no follower counts, no algorithm deciding who deserves your attention. Just proximity, honesty, and every screen we ship having to earn its place. We're looking for a designer who cares as much about why as what.
This one's for a college student/part-time consultant, who's hungry to design something real instead of another case study for a portfolio nobody asked for.
? What you'll actually do
- Turn fuzzy "what if we..." ideas into flows that actually make sense
- Design in Figma daily, components, auto layout, prototypes people can actually click through
- Build and maintain our design system, themes, tokens, components that don't fall apart the third time someone reuses them
- Iterate rapid. Ship a version, get roasted in feedback, fix it properly (not just patch it), move on
- Ask "wait, what problem are we solving here?" before you ask "what should this look like?"
- Keep your files clean. Future-you, and the engineer picking it up, will thank you
- Sit with engineering and watch your design become a real, tappable thing
- Say "I don't think this is right" out loud, even to us. Especially to us.
?️ What we hope you bring
- Real comfort in Figma, and genuine excitement to get better at it
- An eye for design systems and theming, consistency isn't boring, it's the whole game
- Speed without sloppiness: you iterate quickly and still land on the right fix, not just a fix
- Product thinking: you notice why an app feels good to use, not just how it looks
- The instinct to ask good questions before jumping to solutions
- Actual enthusiasm. We can teach skills. We can't teach whether you care.
- A team-player streak, you take feedback without flinching, and give it kindly too
- Currently in college, third year preferred ?
? The details
- Mode: Remote
- Hours: no more than 4 hours a day. This is exactly why college students fit best here, build alongside your semester, not instead of it
- When: no fixed hours. Work whenever you're in flow, mornings, midnights, whenever
- Duration: 8 weeks, extendable for the right person ?
- Team: a chill, young crew of 10+, no hierarchy theatre, just people building
- Team meetups: once a month, entirely optional, snacks non-negotiable ?
? What you'll walk away with
- Internship Certificate + Letter of Recommendation
- Real screens, shipped to real users, not filed away in a design system nobody opens
- Direct mentorship, not a "watch this Loom later" kind
- A portfolio piece with an actual story: the problem, the questions you asked, the thing you shipped
? Who thrives here
You get a small thrill from a clean file and a cleaner flow. You'd rather ask an awkward question in a meeting than guess quietly and be wrong later. You move fast, fix things right, and care about your team as much as your craft.
If you read this and thought "wait, this sounds like me," hi. We'd love to see what you build. ?
