About the assignment

We are staffing a monolingual dubbing evaluation for a client project. Selected linguists will watch and listen to already-dubbed video clips in the target language only. There is no access to the original / source video.

Your job is to assess the overall viewing and listening experience and submit a rating for each clip. Ratings should consider everything in the video, including background music or noise, the sound of the voice, how natural it feels, and the speech’s inferred meaning, emotion, and pacing.

You work with the client directly after you pass a short screen and sign the linguist agreement.

Languages and workload

Apply for one language only.

1. English (de→en)
2. Spanish (en→es)
3. Indonesian (en→id)
4. Italian (en→it)
5. Portuguese (en→pt)

We need 7 unique linguists per language. The same person cannot evaluate more than one language on this project.

Rating scale you will use

- Excellent: High-quality dub that is fully understandable, sounds natural, aligns with the timing of the video, conveys emotion, and is enjoyable to watch.
- Good: Fully understandable. It may not convey emotion, but the voice suits the character and the viewer still gets value.
- Fair: Parts of the translation seemed unnatural or wrong, or the voice sounded robotic or mis-gendered, or there were minor speed issues. The main message still comes through.
- Poor: Hard to focus. Critical pieces missing.



Seems to miss the critical meaning of the original speech.
- Very Poor: Distorted audio; speech makes no sense or seems irrelevant to the video; severe audio-visual misalignment.

Requirements

- Full professional fluency or equivalent listening ability in the target language you apply for
- Headphones for every clip
- Quiet room with no background noise
- Ability to finish the full clip set for that language
- Willingness to review the client guidelines and sample videos before any production rating
- PayPal or Payoneer account in your own name that can receive USD
- Available to start immediately

Please do not apply if

- You do not have headphones
- You cannot work in a quiet workplace
- You cannot hear the clips clearly
- You lack expertise in the language or the task
- You need payout by bank transfer, UPI, Wise, or any method other than PayPal or Payoneer
- You want to evaluate more than one language

If any of those apply after you start, release the task. Do not guess ratings.

Pay

USD 15.00 for successful completion of the full assigned clip set in one language. Paid within 48 hours of accepted completion, via PayPal or Payoneer only. Partial work, released tasks, and ratings submitted without watching the clips are not paid.
