Job Purpose

Responsible for supervising and controlling day-to-day melting shop operations to achieve required production targets, metal chemistry, quality standards, safety requirements and efficient utilization of manpower, furnace and raw materials.

Key Responsibilities

- Supervise daily melting operations as per production plan and customer requirements.
- Operate and monitor induction furnace melting activities and ensure safe furnace operation.
- Plan and control charging of pig iron, scrap, returns, ferro alloys and other charge materials as per approved charge-mix.
- Ensure correct metal temperature and chemical composition before tapping.
- Coordinate with the Quality/Metallurgy Department for spectrometer analysis and chemistry correction.
- Monitor furnace temperature, melting time, power consumption and production output.
- Ensure proper inoculation, alloy addition and treatment practices as applicable to the casting grade.
- Maintain heat-wise records including heat number, charge mix, temperature, chemistry, tapping time and quantity.
- Ensure proper identification and traceability of molten-metal heats.
- Control rejection, metal loss, slag generation and other melting-related wastage.
- Supervise and allocate manpower according to shift requirements.
- Ensure availability of charge materials, ferro alloys, tools, ladles and other melting-shop consumables.
- Coordinate with Moulding, Core Shop,



Pouring and Quality Departments for timely supply of molten metal.
- Ensure ladle preheating, maintenance and safe handling before pouring.
- Follow all foundry safety procedures, PPE requirements and emergency practices.
- Monitor housekeeping and 5S activities in the melting area.
- Report furnace breakdowns, abnormalities, accidents, near misses and quality problems to the concerned authority.
- Support preventive maintenance activities of furnaces and associated equipment.
- Train and guide operators/helpers on safe and correct melting practices.
- Prepare shift-wise production and melting reports and communicate important issues during shift handover.

Educational Qualification

Diploma / B.E. in Mechanical, Metallurgy or related technical discipline, preferably with relevant foundry experience.

Experience

Relevant experience in Foundry Melting Shop / Induction Furnace Operations, preferably in CI/SG iron casting production.
