About the Role

DigitalOcean’s Core Compute organization provides reliable, high-performance virtual machine infrastructure (Droplets), scalable Autoscale Pools, and flexible resource allocation systems that allow millions of developers to run critical applications confidently at scale. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer I to join our Compute Platform Services team. This team is responsible for building the scalable backend infrastructure, control planes, and hypervisor-orchestration engines that provision, lifecycle-manage, and scale compute workloads safely and reliably.

you will help design and develop high-throughput backend systems that orchestrate complex VM placement and execution workflows, interface with hypervisor control layers, and process real-time resource-telemetry signals. You will work on solving distributed systems problems at the intersection of host infrastructure orchestration, hypervisor management, and asynchronous control flows, ensuring our core compute platforms are robust, scalable, and highly available.

What you'll do
- Designing, building, and maintaining robust backend services and highly concurrent asynchronous workflows for virtual machine provisioning, placement, and lifecycle management, primarily in Python and Go.
