Computer Science Subject Matter Expert (Freelance)

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Computer Science Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the development of high-quality technical content, curriculum, assessments, or AI training data (adjust based on your actual use case). You'll bring deep expertise in core CS concepts and applied problem-solving to ensure our materials are accurate, rigorous, and pedagogically sound.

Responsibilities

- Review, author, and validate technical content spanning computer science topics (e.g., data structures, algorithms, systems design, databases, networking, operating systems, or software engineering)
- Write and solve original problems, exercises, or coding challenges with clear, correct solutions
- Fact-check and refine existing content for technical accuracy and clarity
- Provide detailed written feedback and rationale on technical work
- Collaborate with content designers, engineers, or curriculum teams to align materials with learning or product goals
- Ensure content reflects current best practices, tools, and industry standards

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field (Master's or PhD a plus)




- 3+ years of professional experience in software development, computer science education, or a related technical role
- Solid command of at least one major programming language (Python, Java, C++, or similar)
- Solid grounding in core CS fundamentals: algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis, systems concepts
- Excellent written communication skills — able to explain complex technical ideas clearly and precisely
- Comfortable working independently and meeting deadlines in a remote environment

Preferred Qualifications

- Prior experience creating educational content, technical documentation, or assessment materials
- Familiarity with specific domains such as machine learning, cybersecurity, cloud computing, or distributed systems
- Experience with online teaching, tutoring, or curriculum development
- Background in technical writing or instructional design
