The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, managing deadlines, and supporting colleagues while continuously looking for ways to improve the payroll service.If you are an experienced UK payroll professional looking for an opportunity to take ownership of a varied client portfolio and play a key role in delivering a high-quality payroll service, we would love to hear from you.About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced and technically robust UK Payroll Manager to join our team and take responsibility for the end-to-end management of a varied portfolio of payroll clients.The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and compliance, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines effectively. This is a client-facing role that requires a professional approach, strong organisational skills, and the confidence to review and oversee the work of other payroll team members.Key ResponsibilitiesManage a portfolio of UK payroll clients, ensuring payrolls are processed accurately, efficiently, and within agreed deadlines.Act as the primary point of contact for clients regarding payroll, HMRC matters, and related compliance requirements.Process payroll from start to finish, including starters, leavers, salary changes, statutory payments, deductions, pensions,



and RTI submissions.Ensure all HMRC payroll submissions and related filings are completed accurately and within statutory deadlines.Prepare and review year-end payroll documentation, including P45s, P60s, and P11Ds.Review payroll work completed by other team members, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with legislation and internal procedures.Provide guidance, support, and day-to-day oversight to payroll team members where required.Maintain accurate payroll records, reconciliations, and appropriate audit trails.Monitor payroll calendars and statutory deadlines across the client portfolio to ensure timely completion of all required submissions.Deal with payroll queries professionally and efficiently, providing clear advice and practical solutions to clients.Identify potential payroll and compliance issues and take appropriate action to resolve them.Contribute to the development and improvement of payroll systems, processes, procedures, and service delivery standards.Ensure a consistently high level of client service and maintain strong, professional working relationships.About YouThe ideal candidate will have:Strong technical knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements.Proven experience managing multiple UK payroll clients or a varied payroll portfolio.Experience with RTI, PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, statutory payments, P45s, P60s, and P11Ds.Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines.Experience reviewing or overseeing the work of other payroll professionals.Excellent communication and client relationship-management skills.The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.A proactive approach to identifying issues and improving processes.A professional, reliable, and client-focused approach.
