Role Summary

We are looking for a skilled and hands-on Workshop Machinist & Mechanical Fitter for our captive marine machinery overhaul and reconditioning facility.

The primary responsibility of this position is the precision machining and reconditioning of two-stroke and four-stroke marine engine components, particularly cylinder heads. The selected candidate will perform operations such as facing, skimming, turning, boring, and threading.

When machining work is not scheduled, the candidate will assist with engine fitting, dismantling, cleaning, inspection, assembly, and general workshop overhaul activities.

Key ResponsibilitiesCylinder Head Reconditioning

- Set up, align, skim, face, and machine two-stroke and four-stroke marine engine cylinder heads.
- Maintain accurate dimensions and finishes according to manufacturer specifications and tolerances.
- Work on components from marine engine brands such as Yanmar, Daihatsu, MAN B&W;, Wärtsilä, Bergen, Caterpillar, and MaK.





Precision Machining

- Perform turning, facing, boring, drilling, and threading operations using heavy-duty conventional lathes.
- Machine engine components such as valve spindles, cylinder liners, valve guides, valve-seat pockets, bushes, shafts, and couplings.
- Ensure all components meet the required dimensions, tolerances, and surface-finish standards.

Engine Fitting and Overhauling

- Perform general mechanical fitting, bench assembly, dismantling, cleaning, inspection, and overhaul work.
- Work on marine auxiliary engines, generators, pumps, compressors, and related machinery.
- Assist the workshop team with general maintenance and repair activities when machining work is not required.

Inspection and Measurement

- Measure components using micrometers, bore gauges, depth gauges, vernier callipers, and dial indicators.
- Compare inspection findings with engineering drawings, OEM manuals, and clearance tables.
- Identify excessive wear, dimensional variation, and components requiring repair or replacement.

Tooling and Fixtures

- Select suitable cutting tools and inserts for different machining operations.
- Grind and prepare customised HSS cutting tools when required.
- Develop safe and secure clamping arrangements for heavy cast-iron and steel components.

Machine Maintenance and Safety





- Perform daily routine maintenance of assigned machines and tools.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Follow all workshop safety procedures and 5S standards.
- Report machine faults, unsafe conditions, and tool requirements to the supervisor.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- ITI certification in Turner, Machinist, Fitter, or an equivalent technical trade.
- Minimum five years of experience in conventional lathe machining and mechanical engine fitting.
- Experience in a marine workshop, engine-reconditioning unit, ship-repair facility, or heavy-engineering plant is preferred.
- Strong hands-on experience with heavy-duty conventional lathe machines.
- Ability to perform both precision machining and mechanical fitting or engine-overhauling work.
- Knowledge of measuring instruments and precision inspection techniques.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, understand tolerances, and refer to OEM overhaul manuals is preferred.
- Familiarity with marine engine brands such as Yanmar, Daihatsu, MAN B&W;, Wärtsilä, Bergen, CAT, MaK, and Cummins will be an advantage.
