A production has many responsibilities, including:

- PlanningCreate production schedules and determine the resources needed
- Managing resourcesEnsure equipment and facilities are available, and that stock levels are adequate
- Quality controlSet and enforce quality standards, and monitor production processes to ensure they meet those standards
- SafetyEnsure health and safety guidelines are followed, and address any concerns immediately
- Cost controlEstimate costs, negotiate budgets, and monitor manufacturing expenses
- CommunicationLiaise with other departments to ensure a smooth production process, and communicate any problems to senior management
- Team managementHire, train, and manage production staff, and encourage teamwork and collaboration
- Continuous improvementLead and participate in initiatives to streamline processes and reduce waste

Production should have strong leadership and team management skills, and be able to multitask and handle several operations. They should also be proficient in using production management software and tools.
