Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced DB2 z/OS Database Transformation Expert to lead legacy database modernization initiatives and support enterprise-wide digital transformation programs. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in DB2 for z/OS administration, database migration, performance optimization, cloud transformation, automation, and AI-enabled modernization strategies.

This role will be responsible for assessing, transforming, optimizing, and migrating mission-critical DB2 environments to up-to-date cloud-native platforms while ensuring business continuity, security, governance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration & Operations

- Administer and support DB2 for z/OS environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability.
- Perform database maintenance activities including REORGs, RUNSTATS, Image Copy, Recovery, and Tablespace Expansion/Reduction.
- Provide production support, implementation support, and troubleshooting for critical database environments.
- Manage application development and staging DB2 subsystems, including production data extraction and staging data refresh processes.
- Coordinate disaster recovery planning, testing, and recovery strategies.

Database Modernization & Transformation

- Assess existing DB2 z/OS environments and develop modernization roadmaps aligned with enterprise transformation goals.
- Lead legacy-to-cloud database migration initiatives, including:
- DB2 z/OS to Amazon RDS DB2
- DB2 z/OS to PostgreSQL
- DB2 z/OS to cloud-native database platforms

- Design and execute schema modernization, database redesign, and migration strategies.
- Automate migration runbooks and database transformation processes.

Performance Engineering

- Perform database performance tuning and optimization activities.




- Analyze application and database bottlenecks in production environments.
- Conduct capacity planning, forecasting, and proactive performance management.
- Utilize IBM and BMC performance toolsets to monitor and improve database efficiency.

AI-Enabled Database Transformation

- Identify and implement opportunities for AI-assisted database modernization.
- Leverage Generative AI and intelligent automation for:
- Database assessment
- Migration planning
- Schema conversion
- Performance tuning
- Operational analytics
- Anomaly detection

- Support AI-ready data architectures through improved data quality, metadata management, governance, and security practices.
- Promote responsible AI principles and compliance standards within transformation programs.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

- Collaborate with application teams, domain experts, architects, cloud engineers, and business stakeholders.
- Coordinate onsite and offshore resources to support large-scale transformation initiatives.
- Engage with IBM Technical Services and manage PMRs for issue resolution.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance across modernization projects.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience as a DB2 for z/OS DBA.
- Solid expertise in SQL and database performance tuning.
- Deep knowledge of IBM and BMC database utilities, including:
- REORG
- RUNSTATS
- Image Copy
- Point-in-Time Recovery
- Tablespace Expansion and Reduction

- Experience supporting Application Development Staging DB2 subsystems.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with cloud migration projects involving AWS and Azure.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native database platforms.
- Experience with database migration and transformation tools.
- Understanding of AI/ML concepts and Generative AI applications.
- Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, data quality, and security frameworks.
- Exposure to enterprise digital transformation initiatives.
- Relevant IBM, Cloud, or Database certifications are preferred.
