Email Marketer
About the role
You own email as a channel, end to end. That means both cold outbound (sometimes) and lifecycle emails that turn signups into activated, paying, retained users.
You write the copy, build the sequences, own deliverability, pull your own numbers, and decide what to test next. This is not a role where someone hands you a brief.
What you'll do
- Build and run cold outbound sequences: segment definition, list sourcing, copy, sending infrastructure, follow-ups.
- Own deliverability: domain warmup, authentication, sending reputation, inbox placement.
- Design and ship lifecycle flows: onboarding, activation, trial to paid, dormancy, winback, churn saves.
- Write marketing emails, announcements, and newsletters that people actually open and act on.
- Run a continuous testing calendar across subject lines, offers, segments, timing, and sequence structure.
- Report on what worked and what didn't, in numbers, without being asked. What we're looking for
- You've owned deliverability yourself. You're fluent on domain warmup, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, secondary sending domains, inbox rotation, and what happens to reply rates as volume scales.
- You know list building and ICP segmentation: where to source data, how to enrich and verify it, how tightly to slice a segment. You understand that targeting kills more campaigns than copy does.
- You can personalise at scale without it reading like a mail merge.
- You've worked in the stack: Instantly, Smartlead, Lemlist, Apollo, Clay, or equivalents.
- You think in flows, not campaigns.
You describe lifecycle as a map of user states and triggers.
- You're comfortable with behavioural and event-based triggers, which means comfort with product data and enough SQL to answer your own questions.
- You have real depth in at least one ESP (Customer.io, Braze, Klaviyo, HubSpot, or similar), not shallow exposure to five.
- You measure past open rate. You care about click to conversion, reply rate, revenue per recipient, and retention lift.
How you work
- You're highly iterative. You ship multiple experiments a week, read the results honestly, and kill losers.
- You have high agency. You unblock yourself, build your own systems, and don't wait on a designer, a developer, or an ops person to get something out.
- You bring the number, not the status update.
Nice to have
- Experience in a startup or 0 to 1 workplace where you built the channel rather than inherited it.
- Familiarity with CAN-SPAM, GDPR, and suppression hygiene.
- Some comfort with automation and scripting to remove your own grunt work. Not a fit if
- Your portfolio is beautiful templates with no performance numbers attached, You've only written copy and someone else always handled sending., Your default is one send to the whole database.
- You need a full brief before you can start.
How to apply Send us your CV at
[email protected]; and two things: one cold sequence and one lifecycle flow you've written, with the results attached. Tell us what you changed after seeing those results.
