AWS (ECS / EKS) — containerization experience is a strong plus

Bitbucket — source control

Jenkins / Argo / Octopus — CI/CD pipeline tooling

PagerDuty, Coralogix, Grafana Cloud — monitoring & alerting; production support awareness

Jira, Confluence — delivery and documentation tooling

Databases: SQL Server, DynamoDB, Postgres, MySQL

Queuing: SQS, SNS, RabbitMQ, Kafka

gRPC, REST APIs; batch processing awareness

OOP paradigm; observability practices

All roles are backend only — no front-end skills required

Soft skills to assess (flagged as critical by the client — Marcia French and Tony Neilly):

Given the complexity of the system, the client has been explicit that mindset is as important as, if not more important than, technical skill. Please assess the following:

1. Ownership & Autonomy

- There are no separate testers and no pre-written specs; engineers own the full dev lifecycle
- Must self-unblock; passively waiting on a blocker is a disqualifier




- Should be comfortable pairing with Product and driving their own delivery
- Actively participating in the team discussions (involved in discussions and offering an opinion)

2. Curiosity & Learning Mindset

- Must be willing to navigate complex, undocumented legacy code
- Should be actively using or exploring AI tools (Copilot, etc.)
- Openness to modernization and new technology is important

3. Communication & Participation

- Comfortable reaching out to unfamiliar people for help
- Active contributor in team discussions, not a passive participant
- Pair programming is expected, especially during ramp-up

4. Enthusiasm & Drive

- Genuine passion for engineering, not just task completion
- Must want to improve and modernize things, not just maintain them

Experience bracket:

- 4–6 years preferred (mid-level to early-senior)
- Client's note: engineers with 10+ years tend to be less adaptable in this environment
- Payments domain experience is a bonus, not a prerequisite
