Brief Job Overview

This is a hands-on, non-supervisory, contract, fixed term (2 years) position in USP-India’s Microbiology

Lab, responsible for conducting lab test procedures as per USP’s Microbiology General chapters,

Monographs and the incumbent in this role involves in Method Verifications, Method Developments,

Method Validations, Reference Standard Collaborative and CSU testing, Rapid Microbiology Methods

and Training programs while maintaining GLP and safety practices. The contract scientist is also

responsible for independent execution of project tasks when assigned in alignment to USP’s objectives

and mission

The Scientist- II- Microbiology (Contract) has the following responsibilities:

- Hands-on Bench work (100 %): Carries out experimentation in the Microbiology area of Biologics

lab and records experimental data, ensuring clear and accurate transcription of results and

calculations.

- Plans daily work, records and review results and documents to ensure correctness and to fulfill

targets on time.

- Performs and records daily calibration of the equipment’s and prepares media/buffers & reagents

as per requirement

- Carries out experimentation/analysis in the Microbiology area of Biologics lab under supervision

as per requirement

- Records the lab related work in project laboratory notebook under strict supervision as per the

requirement and ensuring transparent and accurate transcription of results and calculations.

- Completes assigned work with quality and in a timely manner.

- Follows QMS practices and assists the superior in implementing laboratory procedures.

- Follows and ensures aspects related to safety, ethics and legal compliance.

- Performs in-charge duties for the allocated lab/equipment’s/inventory/supporting activities and

takes responsibility for the timely completion of the tasks assigned.

- Demonstrates a strong desire to continue learning and grow personal capability.

- Completes assigned work with quality and in a timely manner. Assists the Lab manager/Team

leader in various cross functional and collaborative projects. Coordinates with other team members

as per requirement.





- Supports cross functional activities in the area of Biologics lab under supervision as per

requirement

- Submits test reports/equipment’s validation reports and other records/documents for review under

supervision as per the requirement

- Assists the microbiology laboratory in quality and quality audits as necessary

- Performs other duties as assigned.

Who is USP Looking For?

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to

excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility

with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:

- Master’s degree Preferably in Microbiology/Life Sciences with good academic records.

- 3-6 years of relevant industrial experience in Microbiology quality control function working on

Pathogen testing, Bioburden, Microbial Identifications, Antibiotics Potency Assay, Disinfectant

Validations & Environment Monitoring.

- The other related tests include but not limited to ELISA Assays, Allergen testing, Sterility,

Bacterial Endotoxin testing (Gel Clot, Kinetic), food and Water testing etc.

Additional Desired Preferences

- Practical experience in execution of USP Compendial Microbiological test procedures and work

experience of cGLP will be desired

- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written & presentation

- Performing Disinfectant Validations as per regulatory guidelines
