IBM i (AS/400) RPG Developer Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced IBM i (AS/400) RPG Developer to join our team and support the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of business-critical applications running on the IBM i platform. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in RPG development, IBM i architecture, DB2, and production support, combined with strong business acumen and the ability to independently own complex application areas.

This role involves supporting and enhancing key business systems related to Accounts Receivable (AR) Billing, Credit Card Processing, and Financial Transaction Applications. The successful candidate will be expected to analyze existing systems, identify opportunities for improvement, troubleshoot critical production issues, and deliver high-quality solutions with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of IBM i applications, including analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance mission-critical applications on the IBM i (AS/400) platform.
- Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into scalable, efficient technical solutions.
- Gain a deep understanding of existing applications, processes, and business workflows to effectively support ongoing enhancements.
- Design, code, test, debug, and implement complex application enhancements using RPG technologies.
- Develop and maintain solutions using RPGLE, Free Format RPG, CL/CLLE, DB2/400, and SQL.
- Support applications related to AR Billing, Credit Card Processing, Payment Systems, and Financial Operations.
- Investigate and resolve production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and deliver sustainable fixes within SLA requirements.
- Troubleshoot complex application, job, and database issues across interconnected systems and processes.




- Perform code reviews and ensure compliance with development standards, best practices, and quality guidelines.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve application performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with business analysts, stakeholders, and technical teams to deliver effective business solutions.
- Document application architecture, technical designs, process flows, and system changes.
- Participate in modernization initiatives, system upgrades, migrations, and integration projects.
- Mentor team members and contribute to continuous improvement and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience

- 8+ years of hands-on experience in IBM i (AS/400) application development.
- Strong expertise in:
- RPG III
- RPG IV
- RPGLE
- ILE RPG
- Free Format RPG

- Extensive experience with CL/CLLE programming.
- Strong working knowledge of DB2/400, Embedded SQL, and SQL programming.
- Experience with DDS, Query/400, and IBM i utilities.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning capabilities.
- Experience supporting and maintaining business-critical production applications.
- Ability to understand and navigate complex legacy systems and interconnected application environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to issue resolution.
- Solid understanding of SDLC methodologies, testing processes, change management, and production support practices.
- Ability to quickly learn new business domains and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ownership, accountability,



and commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with Accounts Receivable (AR) Billing, Credit Card Processing, Payment Systems, or Financial Applications.
- Exposure to Web Services, APIs, and IBM i integration technologies.
- Experience with change management and version control tools such as Aldon and TurnOver.
- Knowledge of IBM i application modernization strategies and tools.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Exposure to integrating IBM i applications with contemporary enterprise systems and external platforms.
