Job Title : Tooling Technician – Vendor Coordination & Incoming Part Inspection

Position Summary

The Tooling Technician is responsible for coordinating with external tooling suppliers for component trials/logistics and dimensional verification/quality acceptance of parts produced from outsourced tooling (injection molded components, press-stamped parts, die-cast elements) as well as tooling spares. This role acts as the primary operational link between external tooling and part vendors, internal quality engineering, and production—ensuring all vendor-supplied parts conform to strict dimensional specifications before reaching assembly lines.

Specific Responsibilities

1. Dimensional Checks on Outsourced Tooling Parts

- Conduct detailed dimensional inspections and First Article Inspections (FAI) on incoming batch samples and parts produced from vendor tools against approved 2D/3D CAD drawings.
- Inspect critical features, GD&T; requirements, shrinkage/warpage, and tolerances using CMM, optical comparators, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and custom gauges.
- Perform dimensional checks on replacement mold inserts, die components, and spare tooling returned from external vendors.
- Document dimensional inspection reports, keep sample records, and generate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for parts or tool components failing drawing specifications.

2. Vendor Coordination & Part/Tool Dispatch

- Serve as the main point of contact for receiving, logging, and tracking samples and production parts coming from external tooling vendors.
- Communicate dimensional discrepancies and inspection results directly to vendor quality/tooling teams to drive corrective actions.




- Coordinate the logistics of sending sample parts, defective parts, master samples, or tool inserts back to vendors for rework, sharpening, or design modifications.
- Track delivery timelines for sample lots, modified tooling components, and pilot batches to prevent production bottlenecks.

3. Operational Support & Errands

- Execute local logistics errands, such as hand-delivering/retrieving critical part samples, master boundary samples, or tool inserts to and from supplier facilities or external testing labs.
- Organize and maintain a clean catalog of master samples ("Golden Samples"), trial samples, and boundary samples for supplier reference.
- Support tooling trial runs (T1, T2, T3) by coordinating sample collection from vendors and getting them cleared through internal verification.
- Maintain a structured inventory of vendor-owned tools, spare components, and inspection gauges in accordance with 5S standards.

Qualifications & Skills

Education:

- Diploma in Tool & Die Making, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Control, or vocational equivalent.

Experience:

- 2–5 years of experience in dimensional inspection, vendor quality, or toolroom support—specifically handling outsourced molded, stamped, or cast parts.

Technical Skills:





- Proficiency in reading complex 2D/3D engineering drawings, GD&T; symbols, and CAD files.
- Extensive hands-on experience using precision measuring instruments (CMM, height gauges, micrometer, vernier, profile projector, vision systems).
- Solid understanding of part defects originating from tooling (e.g., flash, sink marks, short shots, burrs, spring back, dimensional drift).
- Familiarity with press tools, injection molds, and metal forming processes.
- Basic knowledge of quality control practices (Poka-yoke, ISO standards, sampling techniques).

Soft Skills & Other Requirements:

- Solid communication skills for clear interaction with external vendors and internal engineering/quality teams.
- High attention to detail and accurate documentation practices.

Position type and hours of work:

This is a full time position, Monday to Friday, 11:00am – 8:00pm, 40 hrs per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Working environment:

This job operates in a professional office setting. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, filing cabinets, scanners etc. The role also uses typical engineering test equipment such as soldering iron, meters, power supplies, oscilloscope etc. Occasional WFH (work from home) is provisioned for females on need basis.
