Job Description – Duty Doctor / RMO

Position: Duty Doctor / Resident Medical Officer (RMO)
Department: Clinical Operations
Location: ZenHeal Cancer Hospital
Shift: Rotational / Day / Night Duty

Role Summary

The Duty Doctor/RMO will be responsible for the clinical monitoring and day-to-day medical management of admitted patients, timely execution of consultants’ treatment plans, emergency response, documentation, and coordination with nursing and clinical teams.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Rounds

- Take complete handover of all IPD/ICU patients at the beginning of the shift.
- Conduct regular patient rounds and assess patients’ clinical condition.
- Monitor vitals, symptoms, investigations, treatment response and overall patient progress.
- Ensure consultants’ orders and treatment plans are implemented on time.
- Update consultants regarding significant changes in patients’ conditions.
- Attend immediately to deterioration, emergencies, pain, reactions or other acute patient concerns.

Clinical & Emergency Management

- Provide immediate medical assessment and stabilization during emergencies.
- Initiate appropriate emergency management within authorized clinical protocols and escalate to the concerned consultant.
- Review investigation reports and promptly communicate critical findings.
- Coordinate patient transfers to ICU or higher levels of care when advised/clinically required.




- Ensure appropriate pre-operative and post-operative monitoring.

Documentation

- Maintain complete and accurate patient case sheets, progress notes and treatment records.
- Document diagnosis, clinical findings, treatment updates and consultant instructions.
- Complete admission notes, discharge-related documentation and shift handovers.
- Ensure all clinical documentation is timely, legible and properly signed.

Coordination & Accountability

- Coordinate closely with consultants, nursing staff, OT, laboratory, pharmacy and other departments.
- Guide nursing staff regarding implementation of documented treatment orders.
- Ensure investigations, medications and procedures advised for patients are completed without unnecessary delay.
- Provide a detailed handover to the incoming Duty Doctor/RMO.
- Maintain qualified communication with patients and attendants and address clinical concerns appropriately.

Candidate Requirements:

- MBBS with valid medical registration.
- Previous RMO/Duty Doctor experience preferred.
- Experience in oncology, ICU, emergency or inpatient care will be an advantage.
- Strong patient-monitoring and emergency-management skills.
- Ability to work independently during night shifts and escalate appropriately.
- Good clinical documentation and communication skills.
