OT NURSING IN-CHARGE / OT NURSE MANAGER
Department: Operation Theatre Complex
Reporting To: HOD – Nursing
Areas: OT, Cardiac OT, Pre-operative & Post-operative Areas

JOB PURPOSE

To ensure safe, efficient and patient-centred functioning of the OT complex and associated areas through effective nursing administration, clinical supervision, manpower management, infection control, quality improvement and compliance with hospital policies and applicable.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- OT Administration & Operations: Ensure smooth day-to-day functioning of OT, Cardiac OT, CSSD, Pre-operative and Post-operative areas; conduct regular rounds and coordinate with surgeons, anaesthesia, OT Manager, CSSD and other departments.
- Patient Safety & Clinical Care: Ensure compliance with patient identification, safe surgery checklist/time-out, pre/post-operative care, safe handover, medication safety, emergency preparedness and appropriate clinical documentation.
- Nursing Manpower: Prepare duty rosters, allocate staff according to workload and competency, maintain staffing/vacancy MIS, and monitor attendance, leave, overtime, resignations and deployment.
- NABH & Quality Compliance: Ensure implementation of applicable NABH policies, SOPs, protocols and quality standards; monitor OT quality indicators, audits, non-conformities and corrective/preventive actions.
- Infection Prevention & CSSD: Ensure compliance with hand hygiene, PPE, infection-control practices, biomedical waste management, sterilization, disinfection, CSSD processes and traceability of sterile supplies.
- Staff Competency & Training: Maintain competency mapping, orientation/preceptorship records and training requirements; participate in staff education,



competency assessments and quality-related training programmes.
- Inventory & Equipment: Ensure availability and proper storage of OT supplies, instruments and consumables; monitor expiry, stock levels, equipment readiness, preventive maintenance and replacement/condemnation of obsolete items.
- Incident & Risk Management: Ensure timely reporting and escalation of adverse events, near misses, medication errors and safety incidents; participate in investigation, risk assessment and implementation of CAPA.
- Patient & Surgeon Feedback: Review patient complaints/feedback and surgeon feedback, initiate corrective action and monitor closure of identified issues.
- Documentation & MIS: Maintain OT registers, quality records, staff records, confidential reports, inventory records and audit documentation; ensure accuracy, confidentiality and timely completion of all records.
- Reporting & Meetings: Provide daily, weekly and monthly reports to the HOD – Nursing and participate in OT Committee, HIC, Nursing, Quality and other relevant meetings; maintain action points/minutes as required.

Responsible for maintaining secure patient care, regulatory/NABH compliance, effective nursing management, infection prevention, quality improvement and efficient functioning of all assigned OT areas, under the direction of the HOD – Nursing.
