Role & responsibilites:
JOB SUMMARY
The Civil Engineer will be responsible for the execution, supervision, and overall management of civil works at site. This includes planning, quantity estimation, preparation of measurement books (MB), billing, rate analysis, bar bending schedules (BBS), contract documentation, labour management, and coordination with clients and consultants. The role ensures timely, cost-effective, and quality execution of works in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Site Execution & Supervision
- Oversee daily site activities ensuring compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Supervise civil, structural, finishing, and associated works.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and labour teams to maintain smooth workflow.
- Ensure adherence to safety norms and statutory regulations.
- Maintain Daily Progress Reports (DPR) and material consumption records.
2. Measurement Book (MB) & Billing
- Prepare and verify Measurement Books (MB) for executed quantities as per applicable IS codes.
- Prepare Running Account (RA) bills for contractors and client bills with complete supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with Accounts/Commercial teams for timely bill certification and submission.
- Maintain records of approved drawings, variations, and extra items for billing adjustments.
- Verify subcontractor bills against actual site execution and BOQ quantities.
3. Rate Analysis & Estimation
- Perform rate analysis for civil, structural, and finishing works using CPWD, PWD, and DSR standards.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and quantity take-offs from drawings.
- Analyse material, labour,
and equipment costs for rate justification and tendering.
- Support management in value engineering and cost optimization initiatives.
4. Bar Bending Schedule (BBS)
- Prepare detailed BBS for RCC works including footings, columns, beams, slabs, etc., as per structural drawings.
- Coordinate with steel fabricators to ensure accuracy and minimize wastage.
- Monitor reinforcement cutting, bending, and placement as per approved BBS.
5. Contract & Documentation
- Assist in drafting and reviewing contracts, work orders, and tender documents.
- Ensure compliance with contractual terms related to scope, timelines, payments, retention, and penalties.
- Maintain complete site documentation including drawings, approvals, inspection reports, RFIs, and NCRs.
- Liaise with consultants, architects, and clients for technical clarifications and approvals.
6. Labour & Contractor Management
- Allocate work to labour teams and subcontractors based on daily targets.
- Monitor productivity, attendance, and performance of the site workforce.
- Resolve labour issues, ensure compliance with labour laws, and enforce safety practices.
- Verify labour bills and ensure fair and effective work distribution.
7. Client & Consultant Interaction
- Attend client and consultant meetings for progress reviews and technical discussions.
- Provide regular updates on work progress, schedules, and billing status.
- Manage approvals for materials, drawings, and variations.
- Address client feedback promptly to maintain satisfaction and trust.
8. Quality Assurance & Control
- Ensure strict adherence to quality standards and technical specifications.
- Conduct inspection and testing of materials such as cement, steel, aggregates, and concrete cubes.
- Maintain QA/QC documentation and coordinate with third-party testing agencies.
- Implement corrective actions for non-conformities identified during inspections.
9. Planning & Coordination
- Prepare and update work schedules, bar charts, and resource plans.
- Coordinate with procurement teams for timely delivery of materials.
- Forecast material, manpower, and equipment requirements.
- Identify project risks, delays, and deviations and take corrective measures.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Education
- B.E. / B.Tech / Diploma in Civil Engineering
Experience
- 510 years (depending on project size and complexity)
Technical Skills
- AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Project / Primavera
- Knowledge of IS Codes, CPWD / PWD specifications
- Billing, BOQ preparation, Rate Analysis, and BBS
- Understanding of contracts and tendering processes
Soft Skills
- Strong leadership and communication abilities
