Job Overview:

Sagar Ispat India Pvt. Ltd. manufactures metal packaging steel drums and 20L/30L containers for India’s leading paint, coatings and chemical companies. We operate two manufacturing units and multiple warehouses, turn around approximately 900 MT of steel per month, and run a rated capacity of about 18,000 drums per day, with further expansion in the pipeline.

We are seeking a Digital & AI Transformation Lead to take the organisation from manual planning and execution to digital planning, digital recording and AI-assisted decision-making across every function — Manufacturing, Quality, Stores, Purchase, Sales, Finance and HR. This is not a role to install software; it is a role to own the transformation end to end. The successful candidate will be the single point of contact for all matters relating to technology, including build-versus-buy decisions, development, deployment, hosting, data security and vendor management.

The intent already exists at senior management level — specifications, business rules and prototypes have already been developed internally. What the organisation requires is execution: building, deploying, hosting, maintaining and driving adoption of these systems on the shop floor and in the office.

Key Responsibilities:

- Manufacturing: Digitise production planning and shop-floor data capture on tablets; build dashboards for output, downtime, rejection and line efficiency; enable tool and die tracking.
- Quality: Build a digital quality management system covering inspection records, non-conformance and CAPA workflow, customer complaint (8D) tracking, calibration and document control.
- Stores and Purchase: Implement raw material and spares inventory systems (steel tracked by thickness, dimension, temper and supplier), purchase order workflows, and automated supplier invoice and ledger reconciliation.
- Sales and Dispatch: Deliver a dispatch tracking system with role-based access, order-to-dispatch visibility and outstanding payment views for the sales team.
- Finance: Support Tally consolidation across locations, implement role-based access control, automate bank and credit facility data pipelines, and build management MIS dashboards.
- Human Resources: Automate the attendance, overtime and payroll pipeline; digitise leave and approval workflows; replace manual scanning of records with exception-based flagging.
- Artificial Intelligence: Deploy practical AI applications across the business — document and invoice data extraction, reconciliation, anomaly detection, natural-language querying of operational data,

and automated reporting.
- Architecture and delivery: Decide what is built in-house, what is purchased and what is integrated; write the code where building is appropriate and manage the vendor where purchasing is appropriate.
- Deployment and hosting: Own web and tablet deployment on the shop floor, hosting, data backup, uptime and database reliability under plant operating conditions.
- Version control and documentation: Maintain all source code in a repository owned by the Company, with documentation sufficient for continuity. This is a non-negotiable requirement.
- Information security: Design and enforce role-based access control across all systems, with particular attention to payroll, pricing and commercial data.
- Adoption and training: Train supervisors and operators, many of whom have limited exposure to English or to digital applications. A system that is not used is a system that has failed.

Requirements:

- At least 4 years of experience building and delivering applications end to end — full stack, or solid backend capability with competent frontend skills.
- Demonstrable live systems that have been deployed and used daily by people other than the developer. A portfolio, GitHub profile or working links will be reviewed prior to interview.
- Working knowledge of databases, APIs, authentication and role-based access control.
- Hands-on experience with AI and large language model APIs beyond conversational use — the candidate must have built something with them.
- Ability to sit with a shop-floor supervisor, understand an existing paper form or process, and convert it into a working screen without an intermediary business analyst.
- Comfort operating as the sole technical person in the organisation and owning outcomes independently.
- Willingness to be physically present at the Baddi plant on a regular basis. This role cannot be performed entirely remotely.

Preferred Candidates:

- Prior exposure to manufacturing, plant operations, ERP or MES environments.
- Experience integrating with or extracting data from Tally, SAP or any other ERP system.
- Data engineering capability — PDF and Excel ingestion, reconciliation pipelines and reporting automation.

- Familiarity with React or Next.js, Node, Python, PostgreSQL or Supabase, and deployment on Vercel or similar platforms.
- Fluency with low-code and no-code tools where they save development time — outcomes are valued over technical purity.
- Hindi or Punjabi language comfort for shop-floor training and interaction.
- Candidates based in Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, Zirakpur, Kharar, Derabassi, Baddi or Solan. Candidates from other locations will be considered for the project-based or hybrid models.

Note on Qualifications:

- A formal computer science degree is not required. Self-taught, bootcamp and non-traditional backgrounds are welcome where the work is demonstrable.
- Enterprise-scale experience is not required. This is a mid-sized manufacturing business, not a technology company.

First 90 Days — Expected Outcomes:

- Days 1 to 15: Spend time at the plant and head office and produce a written map of every process, who records what, on what document, and where that record goes.
- Days 16 to 45: Deliver one system end to end — in live daily use on tablets, with data flowing.
- Days 46 to 90: Publish a twelve-month digitisation roadmap with sequencing, build-versus-buy decisions and costs; implement Tally access control; and have a second module in development.

Engagement Models:

- Full-time: Based in the Tricity or Baddi area, with a minimum of two to three days per week at the Baddi plant. Suited to a candidate seeking to own the entire transformation and grow into a Head of Technology role.
- Project-based: Fixed scope and fixed fee per module, with defined handover. Suited to independent developers and small development studios.
- Hybrid retainer: Monthly retainer against defined deliverables, partly remote, with mandatory plant days. Suited to a candidate with existing commitments who can commit consistent hours.

Compensation is open and will be aligned to the engagement model and the individual. Candidates are invited to propose the model and terms that suit them.

How to Apply:

Applications may be sent to [email protected] with the subject line “Digital & AI Transformation Lead — [Your Name]”, enclosing:

- Curriculum vitae or LinkedIn profile.
- Links to two or three systems you have built, with one line each describing the problem solved and who used it.
- Your preferred engagement model and indicative commercial terms.
- Three to five lines describing how you would approach digitising a paper-based production log for a plant running three shi
