1. JOB PURPOSEThe Senior Manager – HR & IR will be responsible for managing end-to-end Human Resources and Industrial Relations activities for the manufacturing unit. The role will ensure effective workforce management, employee relations, statutory compliance, labour-law compliance, discipline, recruitment, performance management, employee engagement, and a safe and productive workplace.
The candidate should have strong experience in handling HR & IR functions in a manufacturing/factory environment, preferably with hands-on knowledge of applicable labour laws, factory compliance requirements, contract labour management, and Karnataka statutory requirements.
- 2. KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIESA. Human Resources ManagementManage end-to-end HR operations for the factory.
- Plan manpower requirements in coordination with Production, Quality, Stores, Maintenance and other departments.
- Manage recruitment, selection, onboarding and deployment of employees and workmen.
- Develop and implement HR policies, procedures and systems.
- Monitor attendance, shifts, leave, overtime and workforce discipline.
- Manage employee lifecycle including joining, transfers, promotions, confirmation, separation and full & final settlement.
- Coordinate payroll inputs and ensure timely salary processing.
- Develop employee engagement and welfare initiatives.
- Identify training and development requirements and coordinate training programs.
- Support performance appraisal and employee development processes.
- Monitor employee and workman turnover and implement retention initiatives.
- B. Industrial Relations (IR)Manage day-to-day Industrial Relations activities at the factory.
- Maintain positive relationships with workmen, employees, supervisors and management.
- Handle employee/workmen grievances, disciplinary matters and workplace disputes.
- Manage domestic enquiries and disciplinary proceedings as per applicable laws and company procedures.
- Support management in handling absenteeism, misconduct, indiscipline and productivity-related issues.
- Maintain effective communication with workmen and employee representatives.
- Monitor industrial relations risks and take preventive action.
- Support negotiations and settlements relating to employee/workmen matters, wherever applicable.
- Maintain proper documentation of IR-related cases and proceedings.
- C. Factory & Labour Law ComplianceEnsure compliance with applicable labour and employment laws and statutory requirements.
- Coordinate factory HR compliance requirements under applicable legislation.
- Ensure timely maintenance of statutory registers, records, notices and returns.
- Coordinate compliance relating to PF, ESI, Bonus, Gratuity, Professional Tax, Minimum Wages, Payment of Wages and other applicable statutory requirements.
- Manage Contract Labour compliance and contractor documentation.
- Monitor contractor manpower, attendance, wage compliance and statutory records.
- Coordinate statutory inspections, audits and visits by government authorities.
- Ensure corrective actions arising from statutory audits and inspections are completed within timelines.
- Keep management updated on changes in applicable labour and factory regulations.
- D. Workforce & Contractor ManagementManage permanent employees, workmen, contract labour and temporary manpower.
- Monitor manpower deployment against approved manpower requirements.
- Ensure contractor compliance with applicable statutory and company requirements.
- Conduct periodic contractor compliance audits.
- Monitor contractor attendance, wage payments, PF/ESI and other required documentation.
- Coordinate with security, housekeeping, canteen, transport and other facility/service contractors as required.
- E. Employee Welfare & EngagementImplement employee welfare programs within the factory.
- Coordinate canteen, transport, uniforms, ID cards, medical facilities and other employee welfare activities.
- Organize employee engagement activities.
- Promote a positive and disciplined workplace culture.
- Address employee concerns in a timely and fair manner.
- Support health, safety and employee well-being initiatives in coordination with EHS/Factory Management.
- F. Recruitment & Manpower PlanningDevelop manpower plans based on production requirements.
- Lead recruitment for operators, technicians, supervisors, executives and managerial positions.
- Coordinate with recruitment agencies and job portals.
- Ensure timely closure of critical positions.
- Maintain recruitment MIS and monitor hiring timelines.
- Ensure proper background verification and pre-employment documentation.
- G. HR Systems, MIS & DocumentationMaintain accurate employee and workmen records in HRMS.
- Monitor attendance, leave, overtime and payroll-related data.
- Prepare and review HR and manpower MIS.
- Track employee turnover, absenteeism, recruitment status and manpower costs.
- Maintain confidential personnel and disciplinary records.
- Ensure proper HR documentation and audit readiness.

- 5. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONBachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labour Welfare, Social Work or a related discipline.
- MBA/PGDM in HR or Master's degree in HR/Personnel Management preferred.
- Additional qualification in Labour Laws / Industrial Relations will be an advantage.
- 6. EXPERIENCE10–15 years of overall HR experience, preferably in a manufacturing/factory environment.
- Strong hands-on experience in HR + Industrial Relations.
- Experience in managing workmen, contract labour and factory-level HR operations.
- Experience in labour-law compliance, statutory audits, disciplinary proceedings and grievance handling.
- Experience working with production/manufacturing teams is preferred.
- Experience in Karnataka manufacturing operations will be an added advantage.
