Octobotics builds robots that inspect critical industrial assets - refinery
vessels, ship hulls, railway track, pressure equipment - without scaffolding,
rope access or confined-space entry. We are 42 people, with 7 classification
society approvals and deployments across 10+ countries.
This role owns the real-time application layer of our phased-array inspection
stack: the software between the acquisition hardware and the inspector reading
the result. It runs on an embedded target, cross-compiled, against a live data
stream, while a robot is moving on a steel surface a customer is paying to keep
in service.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- The real-time acquisition and imaging application: capture, reconstruction,
display, persistence
- Keeping it deterministic under load - latency and jitter budgets, not just
throughput
- The cross-compilation and build path to the embedded target, and the
containerised builds the team tests in
- Architecture decisions. This is not a finished design waiting for hands.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- 3-6 years building applications in C++, on Linux
- You have shipped something that people outside your team depended on, and
fixed it when it broke.
We weight this most heavily.
- Real C++ depth - ownership and lifetime, resource management, threading
- You have chased a latency or jitter problem to its actual cause
- Cross-compilation you have done yourself, including the parts that go wrong:
toolchains, sysroots, debugging on a target that is not your build machine
- Docker for reproducible builds and test environments
VALUABLE TO HAVE
- CUDA or GPU compute
- Signal or image processing background
WHAT WE ARE NOT ASKING FOR
- NDT or ultrasound knowledge. The physics is learnable and we have 50+ ASNT
certified people to teach it. We are hiring the software engineer.
- A robotics or ROS background.
- A degree from any particular institution.
This work transfers directly from medical ultrasound imaging, sonar,
radar and phased-array systems, or seismic imaging - the array mathematics is
the same, pointed at a different material. If you have built a real-time
imaging pipeline in any of those, the domain gap here is small.
Location: Sector 138, Noida. In office.
