Role Summary

We are looking for a Senior Consultant with deep expertise in SAP ABAP Object-Oriented Programming (ABAP OO), with a strong backend focus (60–80% backend across all projects) and the ability to contribute across the full stack where required. Proven hands-on experience building enterprise-grade backend solutions and services on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP).

You will contribute directly to product development at Exa AG, working with the core product engineering team on product architecture, solution development, and iterative delivery. This role goes beyond traditional implementation: you will take ideas from technical validation through rapid prototyping into scalable, reusable, enterprise-ready product capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop enterprise extensions and backend product features using ABAP OO on SAP S/4HANA and SAP BTP — with primary ownership of backend logic, data models, and service layers
- Build robust APIs, OData services, and service-oriented components for SAP-integrated enterprise products
- Contribute to frontend integration where needed, while maintaining a predominantly backend delivery scope (60–80% backend across engagements)
- Rapidly validate technical concepts through prototypes and PoCs; incorporate feedback and evolve solutions toward scalable product capabilities
- Apply fail-fast, iterative, customer-focused product development principles
- Collaborate with the core product engineering team on product architecture and technical direction
- Ensure solutions integrate cleanly with SAP core — upgrade-safe, add-on based, no core modifications
- Contribute to solution design, code quality, and enterprise-grade delivery standards

Must-Have Skills

Core ABAP & Object-Oriented Programming





- Strong hands-on experience in Core ABAP programming and ABAP Object-Oriented Programming (OO)
- Deep knowledge of ABAP OO concepts: classes, objects, interfaces, inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation, constructors, abstract/final classes, method redefinition, events and exception classes
- Experience applying SOLID principles, reusable object-oriented design, and common design patterns — Factory, Dependency Injection and others
- Strong command of modern ABAP syntax: inline declarations, constructor operators, table expressions, string templates, FOR, REDUCE, COND, SWITCH, NEW, VALUE and CORRESPONDING
- ABAP Unit testing and ABAP Test Cockpit (ATC) — clean, testable code delivery

RAP & CDS

- SAP RAP (RESTful Application Programming Model) — Managed and Unmanaged scenarios
- CDS View Entities: modelling, associations, annotations
- Behavior Definitions and Implementations: CRUD, Actions, Determinations, Validations, Draft handling
- Authorization objects and access control within RAP

OData & APIs

- OData V4 service development and REST API design
- Service Definition and Service Binding — API-first development approach
- Integration-aware backend design: clean contracts, versioning, error handling

S/4HANA & BTP

- SAP S/4HANA Extensibility — Side-by-Side, In-App, and Clean Core extension strategies
- ABAP Cloud and Clean Core principles — no modifications to SAP standard, released API usage
- SAP BTP ABAP Workplace — development, deployment, and lifecycle management

Engineering & Delivery

- Primary delivery profile: 60–80% backend across all project engagements
- Full-stack awareness — able to integrate with and support frontend layers as required




- Product engineering mindset: rapid prototyping, PoCs, iterative delivery
- Ability to work effectively within a core product engineering team on architecture and technical decisions

Preferred / Nice to Have

- Basic familiarity with SAP Fiori — frontend integration awareness sufficient; dedicated Fiori development not required
- Familiarity with SAP HANA in-memory processing and large-scale data handling
- Experience with SAP-certified add-on development supporting SAP ECC 6.0 and S/4HANA
- Exposure to hybrid deployment scenarios (on-premise, cloud BTP, ECC + S/4HANA coexistence)
- Background in Finance, Logistics, or Transfer Pricing domains

SAP-certified add-on for SAP ERP (ECC 6.0) and SAP S/4HANA. Integrates without modifying the SAP core — upgrade-safe by design. Supports on-premise (SAP NetWeaver), cloud (SAP BTP), and hybrid ECC + S/4HANA deployments.

Intuitive, customizable, browser-accessible SAP Fiori interface. Security enforced via standard SAP authorization controls for governance and compliance.
