We're Hiring: Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator!

What You'll Do:

SQL Development & Database Design

- Develop and maintain complex T-SQL queries, Stored Procedures, Views, Functions, and database objects.
- Design and modify tables, indexes, constraints, and other database objects.
- Write efficient and maintainable SQL for large-volume transactional systems.
- Understand SQL Server query processing and logical execution order of SQL statements.
- Use CTEs, subqueries, window functions, APPLY, temporary tables, table variables, and other appropriate SQL techniques.
- Review existing SQL code and identify opportunities for performance and maintainability improvements.
- Work closely with developers to improve application/database interaction and scalability.

SQL Performance Tuning

- Analyse and optimize slow-running queries and Stored Procedures.
- Analyse execution plans and identify scans, lookups, joins, spills, excessive memory grants, and other performance issues.
- Perform index analysis and recommend appropriate indexes.
- Troubleshoot blocking, deadlocks, waits, CPU, memory, and I/O-related issues.
- Analyse SQL Server wait statistics, including waits such as PAGEIOLATCH, CXPACKET, CXSYNC_PORT, ASYNC_NETWORK_IO, etc.
- Use Query Store, DMVs, Extended Events, and SQL Server monitoring tools for performance investigation.
- Identify whether performance issues originate from SQL, database design, application behaviour, or infrastructure.





SQL Server Administration

- Manage SQL Server databases in staging and production environments.
- Manage database users, logins, roles, permissions, and security.
- Configure and troubleshoot SQL Server Agent Jobs.
- Configure and troubleshoot Linked Servers.
- Manage database-level configuration and troubleshoot SQL Server configuration issues.
- Perform database backup, restore, migration, and recovery activities when required.
- Monitor database health, storage, capacity, and performance.
- Manage indexes and statistics where appropriate.
- Troubleshoot production database incidents and participate in RCA activities.

AWS RDS for SQL Server

- Strong practical experience with AWS RDS for SQL Server.
- Understand RDS architecture, supported features, and limitations compared with traditional SQL Server.
- Work with:
- RDS Parameter Groups
- Option Groups
- Snapshots
- Cloud Watch
- Performance Insights
- Storage and IOPS
- Instance sizing

- Monitor and troubleshoot database performance using AWS and SQL Server monitoring tools.
- Understand how SQL Server workloads behave within a managed RDS environment.
- Troubleshoot issues involving CPU, memory, storage, I/O, connections, waits, and database performance.
- Understand which DBA activities are handled by AWS and which activities remain the responsibility of the database/application team.

Production Support

- Investigate and resolve database-related production incidents.
- Analyse blocking, deadlocks, long-running queries, resource contention, and application/database performance issues.
- Perform root cause analysis and recommend permanent solutions.
- Support database deployments, schema changes, and release activities.
- Work closely with application developers and Dev Ops teams during production issues and releases.
