Purpose of the Role

The HSE professional will play a critical role in ensuring the effective implementation of Health, Safety, and Environmental standards across all port operations, including container handling, dry bulk, liquid bulk (petrochemical), and RoRo activities.

The role is responsible for driving a proactive safety culture, managing operational risks, ensuring emergency preparedness, and maintaining compliance with statutory requirements and APM Terminals global HSE standards. Working closely with operational teams during shift activities, the incumbent will identify, mitigate, and escalate critical risks while supporting continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Compliance

- Lead and oversee shift-wise HSE operations to ensure compliance with applicable statutory regulations and APM Terminals global standards.
- Drive the implementation and monitoring of APM Terminals HSE policies, procedures, and safety mandates.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, hazard identification exercises, risk assessments, and safety audits.
- Ensure compliance with safe work practices across all port operations,



including container, dry bulk, liquid bulk, and RoRo activities.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and occupational injuries; conduct root cause analysis and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.

Emergency Response & Fire Safety

- Establish, implement, and maintain emergency response procedures for potential high-risk scenarios.
- Respond effectively to emergencies including fire incidents, oil spills, hazardous material releases, and operational emergencies.
- Lead and supervise the Fire & Safety team to ensure readiness and effectiveness during emergency situations.
- Ensure all firefighting systems and equipment are maintained, tested, and remain operational at all times.
- Conduct regular fire prevention inspections and emergency drills across port facilities.
- Coordinate mutual aid arrangements and emergency response plans with external agencies, authorities, and neighboring organizations.

Safety Culture & Capability Building

- Deliver HSE induction programs and ongoing safety awareness training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Organize HSE committee meetings and facilitate discussions on safety performance and improvement initiatives.
- Promote proactive safety leadership through campaigns, awareness programs, competitions, recognition programs, and safety awards.
- Provide expert guidance to operational teams on safe work practices and risk mitigation measures.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including Kaizens and safety enhancement projects.

Environmental & Occupational Health

- Support environmental compliance activities and sustainability initiatives aligned with APM Terminals environmental objectives and Net Zero ambitions.
- Monitor and promote environmentally responsible operational practices across the port.
- Supervise the Occupational Health Centre to ensure compliance with applicable health regulations.
- Coordinate employee health surveillance programs, first-aid training, CPR certification programs, and emergency medical preparedness.
- Support employee wellbeing initiatives focused on physical health, mental wellbeing, and lifestyle management.

Governance & Reporting

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of inspections, audits, incidents, emergency drills, and training activities.




- Analyze HSE performance data and provide actionable insights to support management decision-making.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports and internal HSE performance reports as required.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

Candidates should possess one of the following qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree in Fire & Safety Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with Advanced/Post Diploma in Industrial Safety (RLI/CLI/TEB approved).
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or NEBOSH Diploma certification.

Experience

- 8-10 years of progressive experience within Health, Safety, and Environment functions.
- Experience within ports, terminals, logistics, petrochemical, oil & gas, manufacturing, or other high-risk industrial environments.
- Demonstrated experience in operational safety management, emergency response coordination, and regulatory compliance.
- Prior experience in marine, port, petrochemical, or hazardous cargo handling environments will be considered an advantage.

- Proven ability to lead teams and coordinate effectively during emergency situations.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, operational, shift-based environment.
- Knowledge of digital HSE management systems and reporting platforms.
- Fluency in English and Hindi; Gujarati language skills are preferred.
