About The Role

Kake is seeking a highly skilled Senior Web & Video Player Engineer to join our remote team. This role is ideal for an experienced professional with a strong background in JavaScript and web video playback technologies. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance video players across web and Connected TV platforms, including Chromecast, Xbox, Samsung Tizen, LG, Vizio, and Comcast boxes.

You will play a critical role in delivering scalable streaming experiences, troubleshooting playback issues, and optimizing quality of experience (QoE) metrics. Collaboration with cross-functional teams such as product managers, UI/UX designers, and backend developers is essential to ensure seamless integration and reliable video delivery. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess over seven years of professional experience in web development,



with a deep expertise in JavaScript and web video playback technologies. Proven experience in building and maintaining video players and live streaming components for web and Connected TV platforms is mandatory. Hands-on familiarity with streaming frameworks such as Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka is essential, including tuning and troubleshooting playback behaviors for live streaming scenarios.

Strong debugging skills and the ability to optimize playback performance—covering aspects like rebuffering, startup time, and stability—are required. A solid understanding of streaming protocols, live playback concepts such as latency and drift, adaptive bitrate (ABR) logic, and digital rights management (DRM) integration is also necessary. Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, are vital for effective collaboration in a remote environment.

The ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to a fast-paced setting is highly valued.

Responsibilities

- Design, architect, and implement advanced video player features tailored for web and Connected TV platforms, ensuring seamless playback experiences.
- Develop and optimize video player components utilizing frameworks such as Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka, with a focus on performance and reliability.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve playback issues including rebuffering, latency, and live streaming challenges, ensuring minimal disruption to users.
- Analyze player performance metrics and QoE data to diagnose issues and implement improvements for real-world playback quality.




- Contribute to the development of player implementations using React Native for CTV and multi-device environments, ensuring consistency across platforms.
- Write automated unit and end-to-end tests to maintain high code quality and support reliable playback integrations through RESTful APIs.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering teams using agile methodologies to deliver features on schedule and to specification.
- Create clear technical documentation and specifications for playback features to facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding.
