Role & responsibilities

Team Management & Supervision

- Supervise and guide Staff Nurses and Junior Nursing Staff in the assigned department.
- Allocate duties and responsibilities to nursing staff as per patient workload and staffing requirements.
- Monitor staff attendance, shift schedules and duty rosters.
- Ensure adequate nursing manpower and escalate shortages to the Nursing Manager.
- Conduct regular briefings and handovers with the nursing team.
- Support and guide junior staff in managing clinical and operational issues.
- Monitor staff performance and provide regular feedback.
- Identify staff training needs and coordinate training and development activities.
- Maintain discipline and ensure professional conduct among nursing staff.

2. Patient Care & Clinical Supervision

- Supervise the quality of nursing care provided to patients.
- Ensure timely patient assessment, medication administration and nursing interventions.
- Conduct regular patient rounds and identify areas requiring improvement.
- Ensure prompt escalation of changes in patient condition to the concerned doctor.
- Assist the team in managing complex and emergency cases.
- Ensure protected patient transfer, admission and discharge processes.
- Monitor nursing documentation for completeness and accuracy.

3. Operations & Coordination

- Ensure smooth functioning of the assigned ward/unit.
- Coordinate with doctors, allied healthcare professionals and support departments.
- Ensure effective communication between shifts through proper handover.
- Monitor bed occupancy and patient flow within the assigned area.




- Coordinate with housekeeping, pharmacy, laboratory, maintenance and other departments for smooth patient care.
- Address and resolve patient and relative concerns in coordination with the concerned departments.

4. Patient Safety, Quality & NABH Compliance

- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure adherence to NABH standards and patient safety goals.
- Monitor infection prevention and control practices.
- Ensure proper implementation of medication safety and patient identification protocols.
- Conduct safety checks and ensure readiness of emergency equipment.
- Report and investigate incidents, near misses and adverse events as per hospital policy.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement projects and NABH preparations.

5. Documentation & Reporting

- Ensure accurate maintenance of patient records and nursing documentation.
- Maintain duty rosters, staff deployment records and departmental reports.
- Prepare and submit daily operational reports to the Nursing Manager.
- Monitor and report nursing-related incidents and compliance issues.
- Maintain records of staff training, competencies and performance.

6. Training & Development

- Conduct orientation and induction for new nursing staff.
- Provide on-the-job training and clinical guidance.
- Conduct regular teaching sessions and skill assessments.
- Ensure staff competency and compliance with mandatory training requirements.
- Encourage continuous professional development among team members.
