Job Purpose To support the CNO in managing and coordinating nursing services across the hospital, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The role involves nursing administration, manpower management, quality assurance, clinical compliance, staff development, and coordination with various hospital departments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Nursing Administration
- Assist the CNO in the overall administration of nursing services.
- Ensure smooth functioning of wards, ICUs, emergency, OT, and other clinical areas.
- Supervise Nursing Supervisors, Ward In-charges, and nursing staff.
- Ensure adequate nursing manpower deployment based on patient workload and clinical requirements.
- Monitor daily nursing operations and resolve operational issues.
1. Patient Care &
- Safety
- Ensure delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred nursing care.
- Conduct regular nursing rounds and monitor standards of patient care.
- Ensure compliance with medication safety, patient identification, documentation, and infection-control practices.
- Monitor and address patient and attendant concerns related to nursing services.
- Ensure appropriate escalation of clinical and patient-safety issues.
1. Manpower &
- Staff Management
- Assist in preparing nursing duty rosters and manpower allocation.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, discipline, grooming, and professional conduct.
- Support recruitment, induction, orientation, and deployment of nursing staff.
- Identify manpower gaps and coordinate with HR and nursing leadership.
- Assist in performance appraisal and staff development activities.
1. Quality &
- Accreditation
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, nursing protocols, SOPs, and clinical guidelines.
- Support implementation of NABH and other applicable accreditation standards.
- Conduct nursing audits and identify areas for improvement.
- Monitor compliance with infection prevention and patient-safety standards.
- Support corrective and preventive action plans for identified gaps.
1. Training &
- Development
- Identify training and competency-development requirements of nursing staff.
- Coordinate continuing nursing education and skill-development programs.
- Ensure completion of mandatory training and competency assessments.
- Mentor Nursing Supervisors and Ward In-charges.
1. Coordination
- Coordinate with doctors, clinical departments, HR, pharmacy, laboratory, infection control, housekeeping, biomedical, and other support services.
- Participate in departmental meetings and communicate decisions to nursing teams.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination between nursing units and hospital administration.
- Escalate significant operational and clinical issues to the Nursing Superintendent.
1. Inventory &
- Equipment Management
- Monitor availability of nursing supplies, consumables, and equipment.
- Ensure appropriate utilization and minimize wastage.
- Coordinate with Stores and Procurement for timely availability of required materials.
- Ensure proper maintenance and functioning of nursing equipment.
1. Incident &
- Emergency Management
- Support nursing teams during emergencies, mass casualty situations, and other critical events.
- Ensure appropriate reporting and documentation of incidents and adverse events.
- Participate in root-cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Support emergency preparedness and disaster-management activities.
1. Reporting &
- Documentation
- Prepare and review nursing-related reports and operational data.
- Monitor nursing quality indicators and departmental performance.
- Maintain appropriate records related to staffing, audits, training, incidents, and patient-care activities.
- Provide regular updates to the Nursing Superintendent.

Educational Qualification
- B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.
- M.Sc. Nursing / MBA in Hospital Management will be an added advantage.
- Valid registration with the applicable State Nursing Council.
Experience
- 10-15 years of relevant nursing experience, preferably in a multispecialty hospital.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a nursing supervisory/managerial role is preferred.
- Experience in a NABH-accredited hospital will be an advantage.
