Job Summary

Responsible for providing safe, compassionate and evidence-based nursing care to patients receiving chemotherapy and other antineoplastic therapies. The nurse will assess patients, administer prescribed treatment, monitor for adverse reactions, provide patient education and maintain accurate clinical documentation. Specialized training and competency in antineoplastic therapy administration should be validated before independent administration.

Key Responsibilities

- Assess patients before, during and after chemotherapy, including vital signs, weight, allergies, pain and previous treatment reactions.

- Verify chemotherapy orders, patient identity, prescribed drug, dose, route, sequence and infusion time as per hospital protocol.

- Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy and other prescribed oncology medications safely within the nurse's scope of practice.

- Monitor patients for infusion reactions, hypersensitivity, anaphylaxis, extravasation and other treatment-related complications.

- Recognize and immediately escalate adverse reactions and oncology emergencies to the treating physician.

- Follow prescribed protocols for management of chemotherapy-related complications.

- Maintain strict precautions for handling, administration, disposal and spill management of hazardous drugs.

- Educate patients and caregivers regarding treatment, expected side effects, warning signs, medication and follow-up requirements.





- Monitor laboratory reports and communicate abnormal/critical findings to the treating team before treatment.

- Maintain accurate documentation of chemotherapy administration, patient response, adverse events and nursing interventions.

- Ensure proper infection-control practices and maintain a safe, clean chemotherapy administration environment.

- Coordinate with oncologists, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals for continuity of care.

- Maintain emergency equipment and ensure availability of required medications and supplies.

- Participate in quality improvement, audits, training and competency assessments.

Educational Qualification

- B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.

- Valid registration with the respective State Nursing Council.

- Certification/training in chemotherapy or oncology nursing is preferred.

Experience

- 2-5 years of nursing experience, preferably in Medical Oncology, Chemotherapy Day Care, Cancer Centre or ICU.

- Experience in chemotherapy administration and management of infusion-related reactions is preferred.
