: Veterinary Assistant

Job Summary The Veterinary Assistant provides essential support to the veterinary team in delivering safe, compassionate, and efficient care to animal patients. This role includes assisting with patient handling, clinical cleaning and preparation, managing pet comfort, and supporting veterinary technicians and doctors during consultations and procedures.

The Veterinary

Assistant plays a critical role in creating a stress-free, hygienic, and well-organized clinical environment for both patients and caregivers.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Handling & Support

- Assist in safely handling, lifting, and restraining pets (including dogs, cats, birds, and small mammals) during consultations and treatments.
- Ensure the patient's physical comfort before, during, and after examinations and minor procedures.
- Support team members in calming anxious or stressed pets using fear-free techniques.

2. Clinical Room Setup & Hygiene

- Prepare and maintain consultation rooms and OPD areas before and after each case.
- Clean, sanitize, and restock clinical spaces regularly, ensuring high standards of hygiene.
- Assist with waste disposal and infection control practices in compliance with clinic protocols.

3. Support in OPD & Procedures

- Help organize instruments, forms, and medication under the supervision of the technician or veterinarian.
- Provide basic assistance during procedures such as administering oral medicines, wound cleaning, or applying ointments (as instructed).
- Observe and report any changes in the pet's behavior or comfort to the technician or veterinarian on duty.

4. Post-operative Care & Animal Welfare

- Assist with cage management, including cleaning, feeding,



and monitoring in-patient animals as instructed.
- Support the team during post-operative recovery by monitoring pets and informing senior team members of any concerns.
- Ensure that pets are kept warm, dry, and clean throughout their stay at the clinic.

5. Team Collaboration & General Support

- Work closely with veterinary technicians, surgeons, and reception teams to ensure smooth case flow.
- Maintain professional behavior, punctuality, and a positive, respectful attitude toward both animals and colleagues.
- Participate in training sessions, skill enhancement programs, and safety drills as required.

Qualifications and Skills

- Minimum qualification: 12th Grade (HSC) or equivalent (LSS or LMDP preferred).
- Certification or hands-on experience in pet care or animal handling in a clinical setup is preferred.
- Passion for animals and willingness to learn clinical skills.
- Basic understanding of animal body language and behavior.
- Physically fit to lift or hold pets and assist with cage cleaning or setup.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and maintain hygiene standards.
- Courteous, patient, and empathetic when dealing with pet parents and stressed animals.
- Willingness to work in shifts, weekends, and during emergencies.
